In his early years, both before and after he’d come back, the Gotham Public Library had been about survival; a free place with A/C in the muggy summer, and heating in the frigid winter, and electricity, and water, and all those other things you need when you’re a street rat in Gotham.

Summary
Sloane Myers is familiar with risk; she lost her husband to it four years ago, and now all she cares about is keeping her daughter safe, and a roof over their heads.
Captain John Price takes risks for a living and has no intention of ever subjecting a civilian to the lifestyle.
A chance encounter in an elevator forces the neighbors together. Between two balconies, a lot of baked goods, and more baggage than either can carry alone, they're left to calculate if, in the end, risk can be worth it.

Summary
Kailim Frost doesn't need help.
