    Shadow has lost himself before. He knows what it's like to straddle the line between reality and false memories, but this time, it’s Sonic whose memory has vanished.

    A premeditated set of circumstances and an accidental injury leave Sonic with no memory of who he is, his life, or more importantly, his painful history with Shadow.

    It’s up to Shadow to remind the hero who he is in the midst of a global outbreak. It’s a chance for redemption. It’s a chance to right the wrongs of the past.

    Homecoming AU.

    Ben and May divorced before Peter’s parents died, so when Ben is murdered Peter goes into foster care. It takes just a tiny taste of superpowers for Peter to decide he doesn’t want to put up with his horrible foster father anymore—the streets are infinitely more appealing. All he wants is to be Spider-Man anyway.

    So he leaves.

    Simple.

    Simple, that is, until Iron Man needs Spider-Man’s help. Peter isn’t about to turn down an opportunity to fight alongside Tony Freaking Stark, but he also isn’t going to let his hero know that his recruit is a fifteen-year-old homeless dropout. So they strike a deal. Peter will help Tony. In return, the mask stays on.

    And that’s when things get complicated.

    Tails realized with mounting dread that he might need to offer Knuckles help. /Knuckles!/ He was good at pretty much everything… except anything to do with technology. But other than that, he could do anything! Except… he couldn’t tie laces.

    But some species just weren’t built for stuff like that! Their fingers were too short or their claws too long or they had webbed fingers or… whatever! The point was it happened plenty on other planets and there were usually other options available. Apparently not here though. Here, it looked like it wasn’t something people really thought about. Maybe that was why Knuckles was being so quiet… across the galaxy, people would look at his mitts and his snap shoes and /know/.

    Here Knuckles had to admit he needed help. And he never needed help. He was the one who gave help. That’s probably why Mom and Dad hadn’t thought to offer… and why he wasn’t asking now.

They were a loving couple living a modest life a few towns over in Green Hills. A town that had recently stopped giving out information to anyone beyond its borders.

    And they'd come in to discuss their son.

    They didn't give her a name. They didn't tell her what he looked like. Only that he needed help.

    Dr. Alice Burdett had been a therapist long enough to identify trauma. And their child was absolutely, totally, and significantly traumatized. And she could work with that.

    "Right," she said, clicking her pen, watching the helpless parents over her notebook. "Let's start at the beginning."
