“Ladies.” Nanook’s gaze shifts to the escorts. “My partner and I need to discuss business. I promise it will put you to sleep.”
Uncertain giggles follow, but even civilians are capable of reading the room. Scrambling for their things, the women slip past security, Khaslana trailing behind with his head ducked low.
“Not you.”
Nanook’s voice stops Khaslana mid-step. He turns on his heel, a polite smile in place. “Would you like another round, sir?”
The corners of Nanook’s mouth lift.
“Stay,” he says smoothly. “For entertainment.”
Nanook enlists Zephyro's help in recruiting Khaslana, a vigilante turned government agent, to the syndicate. Zephyro assumes they'll use brute force, Nanook has something different in mind.

In a bleak winter, Khaslana escapes the horrors of Theoros’ labs, fleeing into the mountains.Tumbling forward, the lone, wounded figure falls softly onto the snow. Crystalline snowflakes drift down, gradually veiling the golden fur under a layer of white. A halo of gold slowly spreads beneath, gilded blood seeping out from open wounds. The time between swells prolongs, each breath taking longer, until the movement becomes imperceptible; a still body beneath a funereal shroud.
The world is quiet, delicate white continuing to fall, fluttering gently to earth.
Into the forlorn silence, two hands reach down. Broad and strong, they lift the fallen figure from its living grave, powdery snow scattering to the ground.

While excavating the tomb of the Adluvinian Pharaoh Nanook, archaeologist Phainon unwittingly resurrects the ancient ruler.
“I could break you, scholar,” Nanook remarks, his tone one of casual cruelty. “Were I a few centuries younger, I would have ripped out your insolent tongue.” The plush mouth yields beneath the pressure of his thumb, the seam forced to part. “I would crush your pride and fortitude, piece by piece, limb for limb, until nothing remained but ruination.”
