Summary
Over the years, Sam and Dean have learned a few rules regarding their lives as hunters: demons can’t be trusted, silver bullets for shifters, iron for spirits, most monsters are kill first and ask questions later, and angels like PBJ sandwiches (or maybe that’s just their specific angel).
But there’s always an exception to every rule.
A demon that can’t be exorcised? A monster with no reliable weaknesses? A creature intelligent enough to run once hunters nearly kill it? An absolute son of a bitch that thinks its funny to bury Baby beneath a foot of snow as a diversion (that absolutely works, damn it)?
To stand a chance against this new breed of enemy, they’ll have to be vigilant.
Especially when the darkness has eyes… the night has ears…And the shadows are always watching…

Ryland is not sad, no— maybe a little, he likes what he has, but when Driver entered his life and offered that quite small smile that he has. It shattered.
Ryland is scared of himself; it's not even curiosity anymore. He wants and wants— he wants to know about Driver, his real name, his hobbies, his reasons for getting a job near their apartment complex, his preference for leather, and why he is always so, so quiet and sad.

I lived with this hunger long before the Hail Mary. This is nothing new. I’m fine.
Right up until Rocky asks another question.
“When last time you touch other human person skin, question?”
Oh. Oh no. “When I… a few days after I first woke up here.”
Rocky starts to relax for a split second, but then tightens when something occurs to him.
“Grace crewmates dead when you wake up. You said this, statement. You not even know your own name, remember nothing, see dead bodies, confirm?”
I nod, because if I open my mouth I will gag.
“When last time Grace touch ALIVE human person, question.”
I swallow thickly. I don’t answer aloud because I know Rocky can hear the hitch in my breath. My stomach churns with fresh bile. He senses my vital signs tick over into stress patterns and goes very, very still again.
“Grace. When last time, question.”
I clench my jaw so hard my temples ache, and beg him with my eyes to just stop.
“Grace. Please say not when… when Evil Stratt humans put you to sleep.”
I can taste grass.

“I’m sorry! I didn’t mean—you were just—" he stopped. Driver was staring back at him in all his height, chin up, chest rising and lowering slowly, trying to contain something. Something Grace barely caught sight of in that dark mixture of steel and coil that was, at that moment, Driver's eyes. There was just pure, unaltered desire. A hunger so deep, so strong, Grace forgot whatever he was going to say.
Driver took his hand suddenly. “Let's go.”
