Elrond makes to leave, though he turns for a final look, hoping to meet Estel's eyes and warn him in his own way. But he stares at the minute candle-flame in Arwen's palm — it does not burn her of course, it only turns her face alight and blazing.
He sees how Estel cannot take his eyes off her. And in the quietest recesses of his heart, Elrond is bone-achingly glad that someone else thinks her light is as beautiful as he does.
