It's quiet, normally he hates the quiet, it makes him feel alone, but with Shanks it's different. With Shanks, he doesn’t feel as if he has to be loud. With Shanks, he feels like it's okay to just sit quietly sometimes. He never feels overlooked or alone with Shanks. Makino tries her best but even with her it sometimes feels like she isn’t really there with him.
That's why he always tries so hard to join the crew. That's why he always chases after the other man and his company. Luffy feels like if he could just stay with the man little longer he might never be lonely again. That horrible gnawing feeling in the back of his mind might just disappear forever.

It was seedy as they come, with acceptable booze and the fact that so far no one has given a shit that two emperors sat amongst them was more than enough for it to be their hang out for the night. Buggy was getting awfully tired of his menace of a brother going through both the Red Force and the Big Top’s supply of booze every visit. Though, Buggy had been keeping his Observation on the man in the corner, the one who had yet to look away from his brother.
