Because nobody challenged him the way Jabber did. And then things went out of hand and they just kept going, tumbling down the abyss of insanity and violence so deeply embedded in his bones he could not separate it from his flesh without a thought to consider the consequences.

No more Hogwarts, fucking finally! Merula looked out the window of the Hogwarts Express and breathed a sigh of relief when it left Hogsmeade station. Those seven years had been challenging to say the least. Even though she was the Most Powerful Witch and could obviously handle anything, she was more than glad to put an end to this chapter of her life.
No more R, dangerous family members, deadly teachers, useless headmasters and best of all: no more secrets and lies. After a much-needed break she would show the wizarding world how fucking powerful she really was. No one would ever dare to mess with her again. She’d get to create her own life, make her own name.

That's what Merula thinks her life will be now that she's done with Hogwarts. But if anyone has played Beyond Hogwarts yet, you know that's not how it turned out. This story is my idea of what happens between the last time the player character sees Merula in seventh year and the first time they see her again in Beyond Hogwarts.
