"Mira stared at the screen, her body locked into place. Her heart pounded as she read the words over and over. Mira felt sick.
Serial killers? That can’t be right. It must be some sort of joke, or maybe these people are way too into their role-playing fantasies. But Mira’s intuition told her that this was very real and now she was in a dangerous situation. Grabbing her phone from an unopened box next to the bed, her fingers touched the note she'd left right there as well. Just then she could hear a soft laugh, and, with wide eyes, looked around, startled and pulse spiking in surprise.

Another laugh, this time louder, full-bellied, something she'd heard earlier in the day.
