It all started the way it usually did; with Tony doubting his own sanity.
“Happy,” he said, turning the paper over, then turning it back, squinting at it. “What the hell is this?”
Happy barely glanced up from his phone. “How should I know? I just drive you around, I don’t try to understand your designs. You’re the one who left it in the back of the car yesterday.”
Tony turned the paper towards Happy, tapping a finger against the scribbles in the margin. “I didn’t write that. I thought it, but I didn’t write it. What sorcery is this?”
“Oh shit, sorry,” Happy said, expression resigned. “I’m guessing the kid went through them when I drove him to school this morning. He has no regard for personal boundaries.”
“The kid.”
“Um— My girlfriend, she has a—“
“Your stepson did these calculations?”
“That’s not entirely—“

"Wow, dude, this thing is awesome. Does it generate its own electricity?" Peter flipped the hammer once in the air and caught it, watching in amazement as sparks danced over it. "Like, I know you're the god of thunder, but I didn't know your hammer had magic powers too! That is so cool. I want one. Like, I won't get it, obviously, 'cause I don't want to steal your thunder—no pun intended.”
He grinned at his totally-intended pun, but Thor didn't react. Not even a twitch of the lips.
“Okay, yeah, that was a dumb joke,” Peter admitted. “Sorry. Here's your hammer, Mr. Thor.” He held out the weapon to its rightful owner.
Thor just stared.

Summary
It's been eleven years since a summer romance under the stars flipped Peter's life upside down. Now he's a single dad walking into a job interview, which is definitely a bad idea, considering his boss would be his summer fling and the father of his child, who doesn't know she exists. But it shouldn't matter; it's not like he'd see Tony Stark ever again, just working as a lab tech, except that the job is no simple lab position, but rather a once-in-a-lifetime chance to work for the Avengers and live on the compound. Peter shouldn't take it. He should run far away from Tony and leave the past behind.
But people do funny things when they're still in love.

Tony Stark was dying.
The palladium poisoning was getting worse by the day, and no amount of chlorophyll sludge, whiskey, or denial was going to fix it.
Then New York called to inform him that his biological son’s guardians had died unexpectedly, leaving Tony with temporary emergency custody of a fourteen-year-old kid who very clearly wanted nothing to do with him.
There was a reason Tony never wanted to be a father.
