Summary
Ever since Zemo got a pardon in exchange for helping take down what was left of Hydra, Sam felt like he was this close to going crazy. By now, he was half convinced both Zemo’s and Bucky’s goal in life was to annoy him to death. And fuck if they didn’t come close to it, sometimes.
But something weird had been going on lately. They were still pains in his ass; that wasn’t even in question. But still, it was… different. Less Zemo-pushing-Bucky’s-buttons-until-he-had-enough-and-hit-him or Bucky-chugging-a-seventy-grand-bottle-of-scotch-in-front-of-Zemo-like-it-was-water-just-to-see-what-happened (Bucky got shitfaced for an hour and Zemo went to pout in the kitchen, that’s what happened.) and more of Bucky buying the nice vegetables from the farmer’s market cause he knew Zemo liked to cook with those, and more Zemo getting seats to a Broadway show Bucky wanted to go to (Chicago, duh.) just because he could.
Now, Sam was seriously regretting the times those two hated each other.

Summary
Zemo wakes with a start and instantly knows something is wrong. The window is open more than when he left it, and he looks around the dark room until his eyes land on a black form in the far corner that shouldn’t be there. He reaches for the gun he keeps on his bedside table and finds it gone. His blood turns to ice, and he knows he is in trouble. The form in the corner shifts and starts to slink towards him unevenly and he can do nothing but sit in bed and wait for the inevitable. Someone has found him, and this will be the night he dies, he’s sure of it. But then the dark figure crosses over into the beams of moonlight flooding in from the window and he sees someone he never thought he would see again. The moonlight casts pale light over the face of James Barnes; but then he sees the man’s eyes and realizes that this is not Barnes, but the Soldier crawling towards him.
Zemo doesn't try to kill himself after the events of CA:CW. Instead he flees to a cabin in the Swiss Alps to live out his life in peace. Then the Winter Soldier tracks him down and a new bond is formed with the broken Soldier
