    Summary

Loud beeps from his phone startled Ilya, and he slowed down, reaching for the device he’d put on the bar between his legs. Jane. He smiled to himself when he saw the notifications, and, checking Marlowe was absorbed in his own fitness, opened it quickly, smiling in anticipation of Shane's words.

The smile was wiped off his face almost instantly.

The blood drained from his face, and Ilya felt like the bottom had just fallen out of his world.

    *****

Maybe he was naive, but Ilya always thought he had time. Time with Shane. Time to tell him what he truly meant to him.

That, somehow, one way or another, Shane would always be there.

But a text message late one night threatens to destroy the future that Ilya has spent the time carefully constructing in his mind.

Maybe Shane wasn't always going to be there. That Shane would be cruelly snatched away from him before he had a chance to be honest.

That he would be left behind. Alone.

    Summary

In a hotel room in Tampa in 2017, Shane and Ilya make the mature decision. The safe one. The one that means they have to say goodbye.

Neither one of them knows it’s something they can take back. If they want to.

Because sometimes things have to fall apart to come together in the end.

    Summary

Shane and Ilya broke up. It was the adult, mature decision they made together and moved on from. Except Shane is still Ilya's emergency contact and Ilya's coach just called.

Ilya had a seizure. Well, seizures. Multiple. He is in the hospital, in the operation block and suddenly Shane is met with the possibility that last words Ilya Rozanov ever heard from him were "Maybe love isn't enough."

And then complications occur. And Ilya is not waking up.

    ***

They’d sat on a perfectly ordinary Wednesday afternoon in their perfectly ordinary kitchen, with coffee that had gone cold on the table between them, and calmly dismantled the life they’d built together. One sentence at a time.

“Maybe we need space.” “Maybe we’re just hurting each other.” “Maybe love isn’t enough.”

He wants to go back and shove that version of himself against the wall. Shake him until his teeth rattle.

Love is the only thing that matters when someone is under general anaesthesia and a stranger is touching their brain, Shane thinks wildly. Love is literally the only currency worth anything in a room like this.

    Summary

Way back during the pandemic I decided to write a sneaky fanfiction as a project for my Māori class. Got full marks. Deciding to post here - unedited - years later, because there aren't enough works in te reo on this site.
    ________________________________________________________________________________
Almost an 'Everybody Lives Nobody Dies' (more like everyone stays together as friends) alternative ending to Rats SMP in which the Grandma leaves the house and escapes to far away suburbs with all the rats, who build constructions all around and live safely in her little house. She and children in the house are aware of the rats intelligence, so people help her to leave. She is disappointed and was mistreated by her son (the father) and continues to write to her daughter-in-law and grandchildren.
