Summary
Left behind at the Misty Palms Oasis, Katara waits days for Aang, Sokka, and Toph to return. But when bounty hunters close in, her only chance at escape comes from the last people she ever thought she could trust: Zuko and Iroh. Now traveling under false names and bound by a fake marriage, Katara finds herself on the road to Ba Sing Se. At first, she barely trusts him, but somewhere along the way, she starts to realize Zuko isn't what she thought he was.
She keeps reminding herself it will end once they reach the city, but in a place crowded with millions of refugees and stuck in the Lower Ring, she doesn’t have much hope of finding her friends. With no leads and nowhere else to go, she resolves to wait for them to find her. But in their cramped apartment, the days turn into weeks, and the longer they stay, the harder it becomes to remember where the act ends and something real begins.

She couldn’t even say it had been impossible, she knew she could’ve done it — she could’ve saved them all. But she picked Chloe. And as horrible, as tragic, as devastating as the choice had been, Max knew it was the only option she would ever choose.
