That quiet sincerity hit harder than the letter had.
Isaku studied him, really studied him.
She put together in her head the boy she once knew that had believed no one would ever stay and the man in front of her that was asking her to choose whether she would.
Not for him, but for Shinki. For however long this arrangement was meant to last.
Isaku exhaled slowly.
“This is a terrible idea,” she said.
“Yes, you’re absolutely right” Gaara agreed immediately.
The immediate response caught her off guard and drew another laugh from her.
“Wow,” she said, shaking her head. “At least we’re on the same page.”
A faint smile touched his lips, small but unmistakably genuine.
“Just know that you absolutely can refuse—”
“Temporary,” she interrupted, lifting a finger.
