The idea of a soul mate was a universal one in a sense.
Newt couldn’t imagine being born and growing up not aware that there was someone out there for him. An exact match to him, his other half. He had wondered what they would be like sometimes. But Newt supposed he would see when they met. There was no sense in worrying over it all, really.
They were soulmates after all.

For this prompt at the km:
Real Graves is rescued and all but experiences some bad effects from his imprisonment at Grindelwald's hands (flashbacks are welcome) so Newt suggests a therapy creature. He chooses Lilac the Swooping Evil who restrained Grindelwald in the subway.
This helps immensely due to the subconscious safety Graves gets being protected by the very thing to capture the man who tortured him.
Bonus points for using Lilac in an interrogation and is just casually mentions how Lilac will eat a criminal's brain if he doesn't talk. Optional therapy cats/kneazels kittens glaring down shady characters.

Summary
Aposematism in animals is designed to prevent attack. It doesn't always work, sometimes it's ineffective against some predators, sometimes it isn't. As a primary defence mechanism, Newt is a colourful individual with his blue coat and golden hair. His secondary defences aren't visible however and often are what surprise his opponents the most. Bright creatures tend to be very toxic to predators, but mammals like honey badgers are aggressively defensive. Newt is a Hufflepuff and the emblem of his house suits him well. Signalling theory tells you that Newt warns off predators and opponents with his colours, but when they don't take heed he'll show his claws and fight tooth-and-nail. It's what survivors do.
And Newt Scamander is definitely a survivor.

Queenie huffed and rolled her eyes, as Percival Graves peeked out from behind the blinds hung over the window of his office for the 36th time in the past hour, just to stare at an obnoxious magizoologist.
Different from her sister, who was keener on letting the two idiots to resolve their sexual tension by themselves instead of playing matchmakers, Queenie had another plan in mind.
Or in short: Queenie Goldstein played matchmakers which involved a Physics textbook and three mechanics laws (ironically) invented by Issac Newton, after she was fed up with those two idiots' mutual pining.
Despite making Graves jealous by telling him that Newt was on a date and finding another auror to undress Newt right under the nose of the director, and asking Newt to seduce （albeit unintentionally）the director by licking a lolly erotically, Graves does not seem to find wooing the magizoologist to be of a dire need.

For this gem:
Percival is a hot 'A list’ Actor and Newt has no clue who he is.
Newt becomes the dog walker of Percival Graves the actor, his friends freak out and Newt’s confused because he has no idea why. All he knows is that the man is clearly wealthy and Newt’s paid really well. Either way, he is almost saved up for the Zoology Trip that could benefit his future in the field.
Percival himself is surprised to find someone who doesn’t know him, not to be arrogant. These days, he can’t walk down the street without body guards or he’d be washed away by a mob of fans. Also he finds Newt’s eccentric and obliviousness nature kind of refreshing.
Percival likes to make Newt blush or squeamish for fun, because he thinks its kind of cute. Percival then tries to do a little harmless flirting, but Newt being Newt misses the point greatly. This stuns Percival… other ladies and men would be swooning at his feet but nope, not Newt. Oh… the game is on.
