Summary
Radzig Kobyla had spent most of his life making peace with regret. Regret for the wars. For the blood on his hands. For the crown he served so faithfully at the cost of everything else. But most of all, for never being able to stop loving a woman he could never truly have.
Anna had always been his greatest weakness… and the closest thing to happiness he had ever known.
Then Skalitz burned. And in the end, there was only one thing he truly regretted.
Radzig could do nothing but watch as she died. His soul burned hotter than the fires consuming Skalitz, horror clawing beneath his skin. This was never supposed to happen. If one of them had to die, it should have been him. Why hadn’t it been him?
And God, why hadn’t he chosen to live while she was still alive?

Forced to watch helplessly as soldiers beat Anna to death before his eyes, Radzig discovers that titles, honor, and loyalty mean very little in the face of grief. He is a knight of the king, a hardened warrior, a man feared across Bohemia… and utterly powerless to save the people he loves.
