"I'm fine," Tango muttered warily. He didn't feel fine, but the man being an arms-length away was already too close to bear. Maybe he was glad he hadn't gone home. "I'll be fine. I'm alive, aren't I?"I hope, at least.
The priest looked taken aback, but adjusted himself to the new distance. "Right, right," he said, clearing his throat. "But - well, there's more to being alright than just being alive." The man's eyes trailed along Tango's form, dirtied, bloodied, and beaten as it was, and Tango's insides squirmed at the attention. Maybe he just shouldn't have come back to town at all.

Hanging from a hook nailed into the wall, and glowing low, but bright in the relative darkness of the cave, a lone metal lantern greeted him in silence.
A strange sight, Jimmy thought. Maybe even odder than the fiery storm happening beyond the walls surrounding him, though much more reasonable in any place that wasn't here. If the lantern was still burning, was there someone else here?
Getting to the Glass Desert had been something he hadn't expected. Though, he supposed, neither had the Ancient Ruins that came before it. Strange stone doors, giant teleporters he simply had to trust wouldn't tear him to shreds - it was all far beyond any scope he could've guessed would be possible for someone like him. Coming out to the Far, Far Range, Jimmy had been expecting a quiet life of ranching, wrangling, and keeping everything in order. Ranching had seemed exciting back then, but it had nothing on discovering unexplored lands.
Or at least, what he assumed to be unexplored. Though this lantern seemed to dash that idea entirely.

While exploring the Glass Desert, Jimmy stumbles across an empty camp.

Summary
~~~
Tango wasn’t sure when his hands had found his face, or when he’d ended up knelt on the floor, or when the splinter of a headache from seconds ago had turned into something that seemed to be attempting to split his head open. He could still feel the steady hum of the containment ward, and the burning in his chest, but the candle flames had disappeared, and the intensity of the moonlight had dulled significantly.
A quiet groan of pain snapped his attention to the summoning circle.
On the floor inside the containment ward, looking to be in a similar state as Tango had just been, was a humanoid. They weren’t human - long ears, large, tightly folded yellow wings, taloned feet, and a long, feathered tail showed that - but they were certainly still humanoid. Enough so for something to click into place in Tango’s head.
“You’re not a Fire Wisp!” he shouted, voice raw from distress. He’d done everything right and still messed up!
Or: Witch apprentice Tango, in the absence of his mentor, mixes up the right spell for his first solo summoning, and instead summons a certain someone else.
