Keenly, bitterly, she remembered the torment of his first proposal, how he’d even shapeshifted once into her brother, then cast them both out to sea again when things had not unfolded as he’d desired. He was a shapeshifter and a conjurer, but it was so much worse than that. The manipulation of her mind, of the very perception of reality, extinguishing logic, replacing rationale, until all there was, all that remained, was only the foundations of his manipulations beneath her touch.
It was terrifying.
