L had already accepted that the end was near and every twitch of his pulse felt like the ticking of a stopwatch.
“I’m an obstacle now, Light,” L says, “instead of your friend.”
“Friend?” Light nearly cries.
“Sad, isn’t it?”
At once, unhappy with the turn this conversation had taken and desperately wanting to steer it elsewhere, Light leans over and presses his lying mouth to L’s neck.
L knows he is going to die and makes sure that Light feels every bit of it (and he does).
