    Welcome to "A Frayed Knot", or otherwise known as "Ascendance of an Edgy Shonen Protagonist: All Routes Lead to Suffering". This idea started because I was tired of all the happy-go-lucky fanfics where they try to make everything perfect, while also inventing a gluten free substitute to sugar, and everyone lives happily ever after. I wanted to make a story where characters experience hardships and trials way heavier than the source material, while trying to keep a similar lighthearted tone to the light novels.
