Konoha was days away, and Kakashi-sensei…
He didn’t have days. This injury was so far beyond her capabilities it wasn’t funny.
She was just a genin. They all were. The first-aid in the academy had prepared them for scrapes, for minor wounds that needed bandages and ointment, for broken bones and sprained ankles. Not this. Not injuries that could kill you.
And here they were, on their first mission, all alone in the woods, far from home and any help that might come—
No. There was no help coming.

They should have turned back after the Demon Brothers ambushed them. They should have run when Kakashi told them to, when Momochi Zabuza stepped out of the mist. But they didn't, and now Team 7 was injured, tired, and alone, Kakashi-sensei so badly wounded they weren't sure he'd live through the night.
Meanwhile, Senju Tobirama thought he understood time-space seals enough to experiment with them on his own. Waking up disoriented in an unfamiliar cave, more injured than he'd been since the founding of Konoha obviously proved him wrong. Touka and Mito would have never let him hear the end of it--if Tobirama hadn't managed to transport himself 70 years into the future, that is.

Something came whizzing down the kitchen chimney as he spoke and caught him sharply on the back of the head. The next moment, thirty or forty letters came pelting out of the fireplace like bullets.
“That does it!” he snapped, his beady little eyes focused solely on Harry, “It’s you that they want. And they won’t stop coming after us until you’re… gone”.
Harry didn't like the sound of that.
“But Vernon, we can’t! You heard what that- that despicable old man told us!”
“Don’t worry, pet” Vernon said, his nasty grin triumphant, “I’ll leave him someplace so far away that those freaks will never trace him back to us. There’s an institute up north, for these- these hopeless cases and whatnot - St Brutus's Secure Centre for Boys. I’ll leave him there, and then we can get back to our nice, normal life”.Or, the one where Harry doesn't attend Hogwarts in first year but finds his way to the wizarding world anyway, and this changes everything.

The greenhouses never avoided his company or called him a Squib or expected him to live up to the legacy of his parents. And, for six years, he got away with hiding there.
Then Voldemort came back from the dead, Harry left for an extended camping trip, and the school fell to the Death Eaters. Neville did what anyone would have done. He called for a meeting with the DA, certain that someone else (anyone else) would step up and become the leader that they needed to survive.
