When Itachi wakes up, the taste of his last words to Sasuke still lingering on his tongue, the sweet Konoha air filling his lungs, he thinks, this must be heaven.
His second thought is, it cannot possibly be heaven, for if there were truly any justice in the world, he would never be allowed inside.
"Nii-san!" comes the delighted shout, and a pair of skinny arms are wrapped around his middle, and Itachi is forced to re-evaluate his first theory, because there is no way, absolutely no way, that he deserves heaven and his brother in the same breath.

Summary
What if Naruto would have had the chance to truly understand his feelings towards Sasuke? What if he’d chosen to act upon these feelings instead of keeping them under lock and key because they were "inappropriate"? Would it have made a difference? Would Sasuke have reciprocated them, stayed in Konoha and abandoned his plans of revenge?

This is basically a rewrite of the whole Naruto “classic” plot to which I added more missions and everyday situations in order to illustrate the growth of the relationship between Naruto and Sasuke.
