Summary
Marble was a poor description, but it was the only one he knew.
Marble was beautiful, the subject of artists across generations, the form muses took when captured in perpetuity. It caught the light and shimmered like the ocean at midday, Helios at his peak across the sky, reflecting on gentle curves and solid lines. Marble was soft, the great sculptors coaxing the beauty from the mundane, pulling it from the stone and breathing life into its depths.
More than anything, marble was cold.
It was harsh, sharp edges bleeding into one another, rough surfaces scraping against skin. Marble was a cruel mistress, drawing blood with every misstep. It was unforgiving, a single error able to completely destroy an entire piece. Marble demanded excellence, demanded perfection, and it would not be satisfied with anything less.
Megaera was carved from marble.
