The Duke sighed, watching from afar as the bomb detonated. He had known that would be coming, but it was still odd seeing the village he himself was so acquainted with go up in flames. They climbed and licked the sky. It didn't seem like anyone could possibly survive. He knew different.
Slowly driving his cart towards the epicenter of it all, he felt a pang of sorrow as he laid his eyes on him. For the first time in a long time, The Duke exited his vehicle, walking over to a mass of black mold. He could feel it. He was still alive. He knelt down.
"Mr. Winters… you've taken quite the beating. Relax, but don't die just yet. I know you wouldn't want to go out like this, not now. You still have someone you want to protect, yes?"
The mold pulsated, almost as if it could hear what was being spoken.
"I thought so. Don't rush it. You have time. I'll be here with you every step of the way. Just focus on recovering for now."
And upon that, the Duke sat.
