Stratt turned around and with a wave of her hand another man had walked over, “You’ll be remaining here with Dr. Grace. I trust you can keep him out of trouble.”
“Shouldn’t be a problem.” The other man’s voice was smooth, and if Grace was hearing correctly it almost sounded like there was an undercurrent of mirth.
That’s when it clicked, was Stratt siccing a babysitter on him? “Hold on! What trouble are you thinking I'm going to get into?” Should he be offended? He was a grown man, he’d worked in countless labs before and sure he’d had some questionable outcomes but they’d just let him be the first scientist to study an alien life form! They should have more trust in him than this!
”Everyone in the world wants to get their hands on astrophage. Simon is here to protect you from them.” Stratt explained, turning again to give Grace an exasperated expression. “I should hope you don’t need constant supervision from yourself Dr. Grace.”

Upon finding something strange floating out in space, Ryland and his twin brother Colt decide to investigate. After all they’d already encountered one alien life form on their suicide mission, what was one more?
Except the thing they ended up hauling into the Hail Mary looked human- or at least to a certain extent, and it was curled around what looked like a black box from an airplane or ship. The figure before them was frozen solid, but Ryland still felt the need to reach out, fingers pressing hard into the carotid artery on his neck before yanking his hand away as if he had been burned.

Summary
Considering everything that had happened recently, Grace was pretty confident that there was little that could genuinely surprise him anymore.
In what had felt like a whirlwind, he’d been hand-selected to be the first human to study alien life, even if at that point it was because he had been seen and expendable. His entire life was uprooted shortly after for becoming a little too important in studying said alien life form. Then, waking up several years later and several light-years away from Earth with two corpses who were supposed to be his crewmates. Then, to top it all off, he’d encountered Rocky, a whole new type of intelligent life form who was here at Tau Ceti with the same goal as him. To save their dying stars.
Yet all that confidence went out to airlock as he stared up at the blinking console, the ship’s monotone alert ringing out. “Radio Transmission in Progress, Accept Transmission? Y/N”
