He’s so caught up in how impossibly blue Vash’s eyes are that he nearly misses Vash’s question.

Vash yelled out, pleading, praying to anyone who would listen. “No! Please Wolfwood… don’t die… I need you! I can’t do this alone!”
The man opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out. His eyes slowly fell shut, as his hand hit his lap, the shot glass breaking on the ground beneath them.
“Nick please…” Vash put his hands on the sides of his cheeks, holding up his now lifeless body, giving him one final kiss.
“I love you… I love you so so much…” was the last words Nicholas D Wolfwood heard, before everything went black.

Summary
Near the end of her pregnancy Concubine Gyokuyou is attacked in the middle of the night. Maomao steps in to defend her and while fighting for her life ends up taking the life of the attacker while sustaining serious injuries.
While Jinshi steps in to care for her physically, Maomao deals with the mental turmoil of taking a life.
With Maomao vulnerable and Jinshi doing his best to be patient with her, something begins to bloom between them.
