"Miri knocked on the door." Kazuki begins, in a worried voice. "I've told her to go back to her room, and that in a few moments papa Rei will be there."
Rei exhales, leaning back against the pillow. "Well, I'd be happy to go. If it weren't for the fact that I have my knot buried in your ass."

Summary
Having begun to form a parental attachment to Miri, Kazuki is struggling with having to return her to her mother. Rei taps into an unused skill set to try and comfort his friend.
"Few things smelled worse to an Omega than the scent of an Alpha in distress. Tonight, the apartment they shared was slowly filling up with the bitter tang of burnt sugar, and Kazuki wasn’t baking."
Everything is the same as the show, takes place the night before they first try to return Miri to her mother.

Rei jolts awake. His heart is thudding in his chest at roughly double its usual resting speed, and he can consciously feel each and every rapid pulse. Ah, palpitations, he thinks dully.
“Hey, are you okay?” A hazy outline of Kazuki's face looms into view.
“I'm not sure,” Rei mutters.
OR
Rei and Kazuki scent each other to avoid a tantrum from Miri, and it ends up triggering an unexpected heat in Rei that they have to deal with.
