    Abram had been walking for over five hours with no purpose and no sense of direction other than away. He wished he still had a horse. That would really speed along the whole process of running. But it did no good to dwell on the past or impossible wishes. If his mother has taught him anything, that was it.

    Or, the one where Abram is on the run and stumbles on Wymack and his farm full of misfit adopted children. Wymack is gruffly inviting, Andrew is interesting and interested, and Abram is very very determined to not get attached, not draw attention, and keep moving. But Abram's experience in the unconventional home and the people in it may just be enough to keep him from running for once, or at least give him something to come back to.
