“They’re well-wishes,” Phainon answers. “Crocuses are for new beginnings, cyclamen are for love, colchicum for fidelity. They’re blessing the marriage.”
Mydei’s hand shifts a little lower, warm fingers circling Phainon’s wrist. “Your traditions are terribly sentimental.”
“Romantic,” Phainon corrects. “Just call them romantic.”

“I wanted to say thank you, I guess.”
“There’s no need for that, between us,” Mydei says, "It’s a given. I don’t stand by you for thanks.” A soft bump against his shoulder. Phainon’s head is a slight weight, his neck at an awkward angle.
“Marry me,” he says, and Mydei snorts.
“I already did.”

"Did you want me to do something untoward?" Phainon asks with an innocent smile.
"Here?" Mydei asks. "Are you serious?"
Phainon walks them both to the far side of the balcony, where they're unlikely to be seen right away by someone just coming out. "Here, maybe?" he suggests, the same as one might suggest a spot for a wall hanging or a vase. "It's not like we're all that loud, right? Just keep an eye out."
