A human, separated, yakuza TMNT 2012 AU, based on the Brothers Sun (2024) Netflix show. Just a one-shot before the events of the eventual long fic, focused around a very pivotal moment in Leo and Raph's lives.

The smart lock on his front door trilled, and Raph’s rant instantly cut off, the room falling deadly silent. Leo locked eyes with his brother, and it was clear that Raph hadn’t been expecting anyone else; a quick glance at Takeshi confirmed the same. Like a well-oiled machine, they prepared for an attack—Raph slipped on his brass knuckles, Tiger Claw drew his gun from its holster, and Leo deeply regretted not getting one of his guns from the bedroom when he had a chance. Leo watched, unbreathing, unblinking, as the front door swung open.
Not an enemy.
Hamato Saki. Head of the Hamato family, a subsidiary of the Yuu-kai. Second in command of the Yuu-kai, just under the kumichō. Both Leo’s blood father and his oath father.
In a world where the Hamato clan is a yakuza family and the turtles are human, Saki succeeds in killing Hamato Yoshi. Hamato Shen leaves for New York with Donnie and Mikey—leaving Leo and Raph behind. Over 15 years they became the Hamato family's most deadly members, until an assassination attempt sends them out of the country to protect a barely-remembered mother and brothers.

“I need you to walk Rose home tonight.”
It wasn't common for Dad to specifically call on one of them to handle stuff like that—negotiations, transactions, politics—but it wasn't uncommon, either. More uncommon was the time.
Midnight. The same time Rose got off work.
Which wouldn't matter to most people, because most people didn't walk their girlfriend's home every single night like some sort of lost duckling. But Leo wasn't most people, in more ways than one.
Raph eats takoyaki with his nee-san(-to-be) and definitely nothing else happens.
Recommended that you read this after Chapter 8 of the main fic, DEFINITELY read after "A Rose by any other name."
