Summary
Sonny turned around to see Elena’s father strut into the playground, and his tongue immediately knotted itself inside his mouth. The man was drop dead gorgeous in a three-piece suit, briefcase in hand, looking all important. Sonny approached the group with jelly legs, keeping eye contact as he offered Elena’s father a hand to shake.
“I’m Sonny Carisi,” he said, smiling. “Eduardo’s father.”
“Nice to meet you. Rafael Barba,” he took Sonny’s hand and shook it firmly. “Elena has told me all about Eduardo. They’re thick as thieves apparently.”
Sonny laughed lightly, reaching over to caress his son’s face affectionately. “Yeah, he was trying to convince me to take her home with us today, but I argued you might not love that idea.”
“I am generally against the kidnapping of my child, yes,” Rafael joked, and Sonny’s stomach turned at the little laugh he let out. “But I suppose a playdate could be arranged.”

“How is she?,” Sonny asked in a whisper.
“Whiny, snotty,” Rafael said. “Just a little bit of a dry cough.”
Sonny felt her forehead. “No fever?”
“Not yet, but she’s being awfully sluggish.”
Elena is sick and Sonny tries his best to do what Rafael taught him.

“What the hell happened?” Sonny demanded, stepping closer to take Eduardo’s hand in his. “Did you punch someone?”
“It wasn’t his fault,” Elena said quickly.
“Does his fist have a brain of its own?,” Rafael asked. “Because as far as I know, you don’t accidentally punch someone.”
The kids go to a party, but it doesn't go well.

“Okay. Well, bad things can happen,” Rafael walked in, closing the door behind himself. “And I don’t expect you to understand my decision right now, but you were right. It’s not fair.”
Elena looked at him again, hopeful. “So I can go?”
“No, you can’t go.”
“I knew it,” Elena frowned. “You don’t trust me.”
Elena wants to go on a trip, but her parents say no. It takes some stomping and some arguing, but they find a compromise.

On the day they move in together, Sonny and Rafael reminisce about life as single dads.

“Of course you can, but it makes sense. He’s always been a call away your whole life.”

“And he still is, you know,” Sonny said. “You know he’ll be here in a blink if you ask.”
Rafael goes to Iowa for work. Sonny, Elena and Eduardo make plans for when he returns.
