Her first night on the ship, Adora watches Catra sleep. She charts the gentle tug up and down of her chest, stares at what once was impossible to want, forbidden from her reach.
She sits on the edge of Catra’s cot. Adora reaches out to trace the collar of her uniform, the white stained throughout with specks of blood and dirt. She rakes a gentle hand through Catra’s hair, the cut rough and ragged. She goes to cradle Catra’s face like she had on Horde Prime’s ship, to run a thumb across the sharp line of her jaw—
She stops. Maybe some things are still forbidden.

Summary
Adora clamps her hands to the sides of her head as a few more tears make their way down her face.
“It hurts!!”
“Adora, what hurts? What’s going on?” WHY. DOES. SHE. CARE?! She’s been standing here listening to this girl confess that she watched her best friend get beaten by their caregiver for years and did nothing! Yet, the look of pain on Adora’s face looks so real it actually scares Catra.
“I told,” Adora gasped, “I tell her she will never hurt you again. That you’re my friend and I won’t let her touch you! She just laughs at me...and grabs my head and suddenly everything goes red and zappy! Like..like her powers! And it hurts sooo bad, but then...I wake up. It’s like nothing ever happened, but I always wake up with a headache. Every time.”

After managing to infect She-Ra at the Northen Reach, Catra is the one forced to look after her ex-best friend at the base. During this time, she learns that maybe Adora didn't have it as lucky as she thought. Now she has to decide whether to keep this information to herself or doing something about it and if risking everything to save the only person that mattered to her will be worth it in the end.
