Hashirama tilts his head back and lets the tears fall. “I can’t do this anymore. Perhaps you should kill me now.”
At least this way, I can save you.
He hears a screech as Madara pushes the chair back and stands up. His hands frantically shake Hashirama’s shoulders. “What are you talking about?” Madara yells.
A sorrowful smile spreads across his face as Hashirama’s body violently shakes back and forth. “I can’t make you believe I love you,” he whispers. “I know that. But I want you to live. So you should just kill me.”
Madara’s hands abruptly stop shaking him. He doubles back and begins heaving. With another retched cough, a full-formed daisy spills from his lips.

If Kakashi hadn’t seen Naruto living in squalor and Sasuke’s personal trauma shrine and whatever civilian fuckery was happening at Sakura’s house, he’d have at least tried to fail them even if logic told him the Elder Council would never let it fly. Screw the Hokage for that.
