The Rouge planet Army had been moving for ages, as far away as they could from the solar system and any other stars for that matter. They weren't ready to face the smallest of starts yet.
SIMP looked at the void ahead, lost in her thoughts as the others followed her mindlessly. PSO walked beside her; he seemed quite content despite the situation. WISE and X stood at the other side of their leader, too tired to even talk to each other.
Planet X had grown used to moving with no destination through space, but never with this many planets following behind him. It was overwhelming how he had been alone for all his life, and now he was constantly surrounded by more planets than he had ever met. He sometimes missed the calm and freedom of loneliness, which was what gave him an idea.
"Hey," He whispered to WISE. "You want to get out of here?"
The brown dwarf leaned over, making sure the queen couldn't hear him.
"Im not sure that would be a good idea." He said.
"Come on, SIMP isn't watching, look how lost she is."
SIMP was indeed completely unaware of her surroundings, contemplating her existence with a defeated look in her face. The total failure with the sun must have really affected her.
WISE sighed, looking at X, who had a pleading expression plastered on him. God, how could he say no?
"I suppose... a small break away from all these planets would be fine."
X smiled with mischief, he grabbed the other's hand and pulled him back. They entered the crowd of millions of smaller planets that went forward.
"Lets go, before anyone sees us."
"We are two glowing blue planets in a sea of small rocky planets, evreyone can see us."
"Well, that's romantic."
WISE'S heart skipped a beat. How could someone make the coldest brown dwarf yet discovered, a freezing ice giant, feel so warm with such simple words.?
"Where are you guys going?" OGLE, who had appeared behind them, asked.
They both stared at the smaller one. Shit, that little guy was known for spilling others secrets like a fountain.
"OGLE! We are just- er-"
"We are collecting some asteroids for the queen's new throne," WISE said with confidence.
"Ohh, can I go?" The little one asked enthusiastically.
"Nooo, because its a- it's a very special mission. She asked for us to go specifically." X stated.
OGLE seemed suspicious for a second, but either he foolishly believed them or decided to pretend to protect them. It was probably the first one.
"Okie-dokie. Well, Im gonna go talk to SIMP, I think she is mad at me because of the whole revealing our location to our sworn biggest enemy thing..."
"Yeah, you go do that." X said nervously.
OGLE said goodbye to them and sprinted towards the front of the formation.
"That was good."
"It's what I do." WISE responded.
It took them a while to reach the end of the line, but eventually, they got to a place empty enough to be considered "Being alone."
Planet X stretched and sat in the air, yawning exaggeratedly.
"Gah, finally! I was getting tired of walking.
"Planets don't walk, we float, we can't get tired."
"Yeah, yeah, same thing." X rolled his eyes.
For the first time, he noticed he couldn't see the solar system anymore. It was official; there was no return.
"That is very risky. You are aware of what the leader will do to us if she finds out." WISE told him.
"Come on, WISE, you need to calm down a bit. Relaax, no one will find us." He assured him.
"This is very unprofessional."
"Just- look around you WISE" He chuckled, looking at the other and laying down. "You have all of this beautiful, Infinite universe full of wonderful things, and you choose to stay and listen to that planet's orders? To stay in your place?"
He put his hand up, tracing lines connecting the stars he saw, imagining everything that could revolve around them. The constellations were totally different there than the ones he saw from the solar system.
"Isn't that just what planets do when they choose to stay in their solar systems? Restrict themselves to one single place in the vast universe? Tying themselves to a star and following their orders?"
Planet x's smile faded off his face. He was right. Despite their insistance on hating eachother, both options, kingdom and solar system, where the same after all. And that was why he wasnt happy in either.
"Maybe it is." He sat back up, taking his knees to his chest. "I guess I will never fit anywhere. Not a solar system, not here. I will never be satisfied with what I have."
WISE went silent. He sat down behind him, lightly placing a hand on his shoulder.
"You fit here, X. This is your place." he tried to convince him.
If WISE had to give up all his morals, all he had ever learned just to make that stupid planet happy, he would. But could he?
"No I don't. I don't have a place. Ive always been cast out because of my poor choices and- stupid personality." He groaned. He wiped his eyes, terrified of the thought of a tear coming out. "I'm- I'm sorry, I didint mean to get all emotional."
"I like the way you are."
The words burned as they came out of his mouth. It was hard to get used to being able to say what he truly thought. It wasn't easy to stop denying how he felt.
"You are just saying that."
"I really do."
Planet X didint respond; there was no convincing him.
"Its just, no matter where I look, I know that im staring at a solar system, a place where I could be. There are so many possibilities everywhere and each little white dot in the distance reminds me of it. There is no escape!" He laughed sadly.
"Then look at something else."
"At what? Space is literally everything around us."
WISE placed himself next to him. His surface looked so beautiful in that moment; it hurt WISE to see him like that.
"You could look at me."
Planet X raised his head to look at him.
WISE removed his hand from the other's shoulder.
"I didint mean that like-" He stumbled over his words. "Was that too-"
"That's sweet." Planet X smiled.
WISE let out all the air he had been holding. They both fell into a nice silence, listening to the distant sound of supernovas and the gravity of objects millions of astronomical units away.
Evreything looked so... different than it always did. It was as if the smaller planet's view of the universe had been transferred to WISE, making it wonderful, making him forget that all the beautiful colors and nebulas had been caused by destruction and death. That most things they were observing were already extinguished.
Suddenly, planet X put his head on WISE'S shoulder.
"See how it wasnt a bad idea?" He said smugly.
The brown dwarf was completely flustered, and knowing the other was aware of it only made it even harder to talk.
Planet X laughed. He passed his arm around WISE'S torso, putting his hand over his.
"Aww, the big threatening planet is shy now?" He mocked.
WISE slowly leaned into the touch, trying to ignore the other's mockery.
I love you, he wanted to say.
"Thank you." Was all that came out of him.
"For what?"
"For showing me this."
"But you had already seen it."
"Not like this. Not-" He relaxed his body. "Not with you."
The other smiled again, this time gentler.
Planet X cupped WISE'S face into one of his hands, slightly opening his mouth. Oh, stars, that was happening. WISE leaned in closer, tilting his head slightly. And just when he was going to make that last push, something stopped them.
"Just what do you think you are doing?" A very recognizable voice said before they could press their lips together.
They both pulled away, WISE fixing his hair in a rush.
"Am I... interrupting something?" SIMP asked
"N- no, your majesty," The brown dwarf said in a panic.
"Yeah, no shit!" Planet x yelled.
OGLE came from behind her.
"Sorry guys..." He said shyly.
That little snitch!
"Come on, we have things to do."
"Yes, your majesty..." They both said reluctantly as they stood up.
Planet x leaned into WISE.
"Maybe another time?" he whispered.
"PLANET X, WISE, COME ON!"
"Of course." the other responded.
