Work Text:
Jon let out a breath and leaned up against Martin, pulling the blanket tighter around his shoulder and cuddling a little closer. The nights had started getting longer and the chill in the air was getting harsher, something that always affected his thin frame more than most. Though, it seemed that now he had a much better fix to that with Martin being a human furnace.
“Mm, we should get to bed soon,” He yawned, but made no move to get up, keeping his head firmly against Martin’s chest.
He had stopped paying attention to the film Martin had put on ages ago, just content to sit there quietly and steal glances up at his partner whenever something eventful happened on screen. He loved seeing how genuine Martin reacted to everything that happened to the characters, even through his exhaustion.
It had been such a long day for the both of them. After a walk into the village to get some groceries, they’d gone out to the garden to pick the last of the vegetables for the year. Tearing up the garden beds and then going about canning the last of the produce had been quite the chore that left them both exhausted. Martin was so tired that he’d already started dozing, trying so hard to keep his eyes open to see the movie out.
“It’s almost over,” Martin mumbled back, but Jon didn’t even need to Know to tell that Martin would be asleep in the next ten minutes and the sofa would be hell on both of their backs.
He took a deep breath and rubbed at his eyes. “Love, come on. We can rewatch the end in the morning when you’ll actually appreciate it,” he said softly, pushing himself up a little to turn and look at his partner.
“I can make it to the en-” he started, but was promptly cut off by a jaw-cracking yawn. His eyes were barely keeping themselves open and his whole body had begun to sink into the cushions.
Jon just grabbed at his hand and pressed a small kiss to the knuckles. “Come on. The both of us need the rest,” he said, trying to stifle a yawn of his own.
Martin opened his mouth for a moment, but then shut it and nodded a little. “Okay,” he agreed, giving Jon’s hand a small squeeze before stretching and reawakening his muscles.
“Your back will thank you,” Jon chuckled, stretching a bit on his own and readjusting the blanket around his shoulders as he stood up.
He just shook his head and pushed himself up, not letting go of Jon’s hand. “Mm, probably, but we’ll have to rewatch the last half of the movie,” he mumbled, grabbing the remote and clicking off the television, leaving the both of them in the dark.
“We can watch it once we’ve had breakfast,” Jon agreed, holding tightly onto his blanket in one hand and Martin’s hand in the other.
Martin just hummed in agreement and they both slowly made their way through the small house, Jon leading the way into the closest bedroom. The one that used to just be Martin’s before they felt comfortable sharing. The bed was bigger in that room, not that it mattered much since they usually spent their time curled around each other anyway.
“Come on,” Jon mumbled, glad that they’d both thought ahead and gotten ready for bed before Martin turned on the movie. It made it much easier to climb into bed now.
He finally let go of his throw blanket and pulled back the duvet, scooching to the other side of the bed and pulling Martin in after him.
“Thank you,” Martin said quietly, finally letting go of Jon’s hand in favor of wrapping an arm around him.
Jon smiled softly and tucked himself against Martin’s side. “Anything for you,” he whispered back. He gently grabbed Martin’s free hand, pressing another kiss against his knuckles and then turning his arm so he could press a kiss on the dark black words that were etched onto Martin’s arm. “I love you.”
He didn’t have to look up to see Martin’s wide, sleepy smile. “I love you, too,” he mumbled, eyelids already drooping shut as he pulling Jon closer.
With the warmth and safety of Martin surrounding him, Jon let his eyes slip closed and let sleep take him.
