"Why?"
"Why what, Eddie?"
"You're doing this because some muggers killed your daughter, yeah?" Eddie lifts his head — the action is a struggle; his body feels weighed down, sluggish. "So why go after Sarah? Just to make me feel how you felt?"
The iPad screen is frozen, save for the counter for how long the call is lasting.
"Yeah, you veered but…fuck. She'll always remember that. You could have killed her, or hurt her in some other way, just to punish me. I'd say you're as bad as the guys who took your daughter from you, except you're a thousand fucking times worse!"
Eddie's voice has raised to a shout, and he knows the zap of the electric shock is coming, but he frankly doesn't give a fuck anymore.
The shock doesn't come. The line remains silent.
Eddie has a feeling William is trying to make him fear the punishment to come. Eddie just rolls his eyes and settles back in the passenger seat.
"But I didn't kill her, Eddie. If the car had run her over, I still wouldn't have killed her. You would have. Your actions, your selfishness. Remember that, Eddie."
The shock comes then, and Eddie grimaces while thinking to himself, I'm gonna fucking kill you.
