The smallfolk of King's Landing became restless when King Aerys II stripped away their autonomies and freedoms granted by Aegon the Unlikely. Discontent festered into defiance, and the Golden Crabs attempt at a crackdown grew into riot. The riot was put down with fire and blood, the lords of the realm rejoiced. Yet the common man has been given a glimpse of the finer things, and men does not easily forget such sweet tastes.
