Family Mail

Summary:

A series of letters written and sent by Luneris once they had a moment to breathe in Waterdeep.

Shit, did they really forget to tell everyone that they weren't dead?

Notes:

hi :)

Work Text:

Dad Father Lord Maidras III,

Father,

Firstly, I’d like to apologise for my long silence. While I was upset at some certain actions you did, I recognise now that they were the… correct actions to take. You chose to do the best thing in a difficult time, and while it made me angry, I have to concede that it was not fair for me to take it out on you.

I formally apologise to you, father - please accept my overdue apology.

While I wish that was unaccompanied by a favour, I must ask one of you - a young boy in our care has recently been revealed to have been the unwilling vessel to a demonic figure (?). We do not know much about him, apart from his name - Vharzith - and that he had stolen a key (?). I request that you kindly look through your library for any information you could find, as any would be welcome help, if you are able to - I am sending similar letters to Sirius and Astria for their help as well, so please do not do this alone.

Please do not think that this favour is the sole cause of my reaching out to you; I was prevented from doing so earlier due to circumstances out of control.

I’m sure you know of the dangers and risks that rises from my job - unfortunately this was one such occurrence. I promise to tell you the full story the next time we meet, but I don’t have the money as of current to pay for the paper and ink needed for the space.

Take care,

Luneris

To Master Sirius-Harto of the Maidras Estate;

Sirius,

I promise I have been receiving your letters, I was just… indisposed at the time?

My adventures lead me to unsavoury places, which I’ll tell you about the next time I visit. Considering I am currently at Waterdeep, that will be some time away, so. Sorry.

Anyways, apart from soothing your worries, I do have a favour to ask - could you help me research information on Vharzith?

He had possessed a child we adopted (I think) and recently departed his body - he claimed he had stolen a key and was looking for an escape from some people or creatures chasing him? We think he is a demon, and he told us that the two were bonded. We want to seperate this, obviously - one, it’s not ethical to have a demon bonded to a ten year old and two, we very much like him. If you could find any information from either the library or any academics passing through town, that would be very appreciated.

Say hello to Eos for me.

Much love and thanks,

Luneris

To Miss Astria-Dwi of the Maidras Estate;

Dwi,

I’m sorry for not replying, as you have so angrily been angry about in your letters - I was in the magical equivalent of a coma. No excuse of course!

And I know you’ll be further upset when I ask, but do you mind researching something for me?

A friend/adoptee of mine - long story - was until recently possessed by a demon, named Vharzith. He had said he had stolen a key, and was running from his pursuers, taking a brief refuge inside the child’s body. Apparently they have a bond, and Vharzith intends to return. We want to sever this connection, so we need all the help we can get.

We should be here for another week, so hopefully the bird I hired doesn’t get lost. If this does not reach you by that time, hold off on sending one, as I will let you know if I am still in Waterdeep or not.

Also, there is another reason why I held off on these letters - the rates of paper, ink and mail were much too expensive! Those funds ended up being used for food and drink, as my party members seem to be very fond of both. Maybe more-so the latter.

Take lots of care, and before you say it, yes, I do owe you,

Luneris

To Therai, located in the regional prison;

Hi maman,

Hope you’re doing alright. Just wanted to let you know that I am mostly okay, and sorry for not letting you know sooner. I was kidnapped by Mystra for six months and put in a magical coma, and then the rates for paper and hawks seemed too expensive - my friends, I think, are very fond of spending money, so I had to watch our funds.

Also, happy late birthday ma! Sorry I missed it, but well…

We have adopted, I think, an elf kid. His name is Pogington Bear, but we call him Bear. He’s a very sweet boy, I’m sure Gran would like him. Ah, I miss them.

You’re getting out in a couple months, yes? I’ll make a detour to your release so you don’t have to return alone - I’m sure the troupe will host a grand party. Uncle Glomir does love his liquor.

It would be nice to see them again.

Stay safe and unharmed,

Your kid, Luneris

To The Scarlet Troupe;

Geez, I hope you’re still on letter duty Ambrose, otherwise this’ll be awkward. Well, if you’re not him, just give this letter to him and all the others to the respective people. I’d appreciate if you didn’t pry, but we all know the nature of ourselves.

Anyways, hello Lambs!

Hope that you’re going well, and that your archery is as good as ever. Gonna say, I miss having a dependable archer at my back, but I have two magic users now, so it’s the same I guess.

I haven’t been able to write back because of a gig gone wrong, you know the type - hostage situation, trials, favours.

I got invited as an honoured guest of Isobel Thorme though! She was very kind, and her… partner? Wife? Fiancée? Whatever — was very helpful.

I miss dancing with you though! Haven’t had the chance to casually or even seriously dance apart from the ball - and that was interrupted by a demon un-possessing a child we as a group have adopted.

I’ll tell you all about it next time, it’s a long story;

Luneris

Hello Uncle Glomir and Runa,

Hope you are doing well, this is just a cursory note that I haven’t died. I was in a coma, I think? Or stuck in Limbo for six months, but I’ve found my way out (clearly).

Hope you and the rest of the troupe are doing well, and I desperately miss your music - my entire party is lacking, unfortunately, when it comes to musical skill, apart from the new addition, Fosco.

He plays the harmonica which! To say he is bad or even mediocre is a lie - he’s really rather good at it. Except, it is, you know. A harmonica. Decent and even excellent at the beginning, and a little bit tiresome after three weeks of it.

Happy late birthday uncle!

Much love,

Luneris

To dearest Mira and parents;

I fear I have just missed your birthday Mira! I haven’t had the time to find a gift for you yet, but seeing as I am in Waterdeep as of now, I’ll find and send one soon!

I’m sure Glomir will let you know about my misadventure - you can blame Mystra for magicking me away. Long story, as I have told everyone else, but I’ll tell everyone about it when I come back when Ma is released.

We actually got invited to a ball! Not my father inviting me, but Isobel Thorme! We had saved her wife from the goddess and stuff. Again, long story.

Sorry to cut it short, but I think I really have to go - I’m hearing something about some of my party being in… jail? Sigh.

Lots of love,

Luneris.
