Chapter Text
In a world ruled by soulmate bonds and second genders, Danny Fenton and Jason Todd share the rarest connection of all: the Pain Connection—a bond that awakens only through unbearable suffering, and ensures that if one soulmate dies, the other feels every second of it.
They’ve never met.
On Danny’s fourteenth birthday, February 12, the bond ignites as Jason is being beaten by the Joker in Gotham. Overwhelmed by pain that isn’t his own, Danny stumbles in his parents’ lab and activates the Ghost Portal, dying and resurrecting as a halfa without anyone realizing he ever died. Across cities and lives, both boys die that night—and survive, forever changed.
Danny disappears.
For four years, he has been missing. A month after Jazz reports him gone, his parents declare him dead and turn him over to the GIW. He spends a year imprisoned and vivisected while conscious, his regeneration slowing with every procedure. When Dani’s unstable core begins to collapse, Danny absorbs it to save her, lying to protect her and putting himself on a brutal clock.
Jason survives Gotham carrying the echo of Danny’s pain. When the suffering becomes constant and unbearable, he breaks down in the Batcave, revealing that his soulmate is being tortured alive. The search accelerates.
A year later, Nightwing and Flamebird uncover an illegal GIW facility in Amity Park and rescue Danny mid-procedure. The moment he is freed, Jason’s pain finally stops.
Five years after the bond first ignited, fate isn’t finished with them.
With ghosts, gods, red strings, countdowns, and second chances colliding between Gotham and Amity Park, Danny and Jason are forced to face what it means to be soulmates who met too late—and survived anyway
