Chapter Text
D3rlord3 was being pulled back, body engulfed into the void. It almost felt like he was being dragged underwater, though the consistency of whatever was around him was much more viscous. He thrashed against whatever was pulling him backwards (or was it forwards? He couldn’t tell). Then as soon as he had been yanked into the void, he was unceremoniously flung out, landing hard on the ground.
He scrambled up, looking around to find himself in some sort of… bedroom? It looked and felt much more solid (or perhaps stationary was a better word) than whatever space had been surrounding The King. It was rather cozy looking, with a rug taking up a majority of the floor. A four poster bed sat in the center of the room, draped with yellow silks overhead. A desk and wardrobe sat against a wall, surrounded by bookshelves. It looked like the walls and floor were made of wood, but D3rlord3 had the feeling that it was all some sort of illusion. He was sure he hadn’t made his way out of the void yet.
He quickly scanned the walls for any sort of door or way out. Nothing. He circled the bed, lifted up the rug to check under it. Nothing. He knocked a fist against the wall, a dull thud ringing out in the room. Solid. He pulled his axe from his inventory and slammed it into the wood. It wavered in its appearance, the area around the damage muddling into void, and then to wood again, now undamaged.
He swung again, and then again. The “wood” would splinter, melt into void, and then change back to wood again, good as new.
D3rlord3 grit his teeth, slamming his fist into the wall.
“We had a deal,” he seethed, tears forming in his eyes. “Please, just let him go.”
Why had Avery come running after him? Actually, he knew why. Because Avery was a selfless asshole with no sense of self preservation. It was yet another thing D3rlord3 should have seen coming. He had messed this up big time, they were both doomed from the start. Now Avery-
D3rlord3 jumped as he heard a yelp and a loud thump sound behind him.
“Ugh, what the hell-“ Avery. It was Avery. Avery was here with him, very much alive. But that also meant that The King had held up his part of the deal. Which meant…
“What did you do,” D3rlord3 said, rage creeping into his voice. “Avery, what the fuck did you do.”
Avery rubbed his head, pulling himself up off of the floor. Rough landing, it seemed.
“Same thing you did, asshole. Made a deal.”
“Fucking moron, you had a way out!”
Avery stood to face D3rlord3, a look of anger on his face.
“And you thought I would take it?” He stepped forward, poking a finger into D3rlord3’s chest. “You think I would ever leave without you? You’re the stupid one if you thought-“
“You would’ve been SAFE! He could have KILLED you!” Avery grumbled something under his breath as he started grabbing at D3rlord3’s helmet, tugging it off roughly. “What the fuck is wrong with you?“
His helmet was thrown off somewhere to the side where it landed with a clang. Avery gave a firm push to D3rlord3’s chest and he stumbled back into the wall.
“Are you even fucking listening to-“ Avery’s hand tangled in his hair and suddenly lips were on his and his anger fizzled out into suprise.
He had never really noticed before that Avery ran cold. He didn’t know if that was just an Avery thing or a byproduct of him being made mostly of slime. That didn’t really matter though, as cool lips moved against his. Nothing really mattered in that moment.
Avery pulled away first and D3rlord3 was left reeling. What the fuck. This had to be some sort of dream. Or nightmare. Maybe both.
“You’re a big fat sappy idiot.” Avery said plainly, knocking his forehead against D3rlord3’s. He still looked rather annoyed. “And too self sacrificial. And you lied to me about coming back, so I’m really fucking pissed at you.”
D3rlord3 honestly was speechless. He could feel Avery’s breath against his face and he was still so close and he was having trouble trying to remember what had made him so upset in the first place.
“What,” he said rather dumbly.
“In your note you said you regretted not kissing me so I made sure you wouldn’t have to regret it anymore, dipshit.” He supposed he did write that. And he supposed not having kissed Avery didn’t really matter anymore. “You’re stuck with me whether you like it or not. For eternity, apparently.”
How touching.
They both jumped as the room started to shift, the walls mottling with void. He was here.
I hate to interrupt, but we need to have a brief chat. The King’s voice bounced off of the walls, echoing over and over again until the sound had distorted into a haunting melody.
“Oh fuck off,” Avery groaned, pushing himself away from the wall (and therefore D3rlord3, who already missed the contact), looking around the room to see if he could get a glimpse of Him.
The walls around them hummed and creaked and breathed amusement.
No, I don’t think I will. I’ve come to do my due diligence in informing you of what is to come next.
“And what would that be?” D3rlord3 said as he stepped away from the wall, watching it pulse behind him.
Soon, I will let you roam free. But for now, I want to give you some time to get used to your new living arrangements. Settle in, if you will. Then, you will begin your duties.
D3rlord3 could feel fear creeping back up his spine.
I expect only excellence, so backlash will be punished accordingly. I will not hurt either of you. Well, not physically at least. He could hear the smile in His voice. But there will be consequences. I suggest you do not take My words lightly.
D3rlord3 looked over to Avery, who had a look of determination on his face.
“Wouldn’t dream of it,” Avery said, rather sarcastically. “Guess we’ll have to be model servants.”
Naturally, I’d expect nothing less. The movement in the room seemed to still slightly. Behave yourselves while I am away. I will come fetch you later to tell you more. Do what you wish in the meantime.
And with that, it was like reality fell right back into place. The room returned to its original state, as if nothing had happened.
Avery groaned, throwing his head back and dropping his shoulders. “Dude, we’re so fucked.”
D3rlord3 found himself smiling, despite the circumstances. Maybe he was delirious. “Probably.” He came to Avery’s side, intertwing their fingers. Avery gave him a sideways look.
“I’m still angry at you.”
“I know. I’m not super happy about what you did either.” Avery gave his hand a squeeze.
“I guess we’ll just have to be pissed together then.” That drew a laugh from D3rlord3, who leaned in to Avery, giving him a quick peck on his cheek.
“I guess so.”
