Chapter Text
Footsteps crunched across the fresh snow,
"Hurry up, their coming"
"Slow down. I can't keep up"
"You need to be faster."
Foot steps thundered behind them, growing louder by the second.
"Please, slow down I can't keep up"
"Their coming,"
"Please"
"They'll kill us"
A branched emerged from the snow catching his foot. He felt the snow against his hands as he fell. Looking up he saw her a few feet away,
"Help me"
Turning she began to run,
"sios please, PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME, WANDA"
The foot steps closed in.
It all went black.
"PETER,"
Peter felt his body hit the floor,
"HURRY UP, RAVEN'S MAD ENOUGH WITH OUT YOU BEING LATE TO TRAINING"
Peter untangled his legs from the sheets trying to grab his goggles,
"HURRY UP"
"ONE SEC,"
Standing up he ran to the door. Opening it he was greeted with Ororo's scowling face,
"We're almost late."
"Don't worry"
Grabbing the back of her head he began to run. With in seconds the two stood in the danger room.
Ororo gagged,
"Your good"
"Just nausea. I'm never getting used to that"
"You will eventually"
"God, I hope not"
"You're late you " Raven said entering the hallway hands on her hips,
"Nah, we made it just in time"
Raven rolled her eyes turning away from the two. "Don't make it a habit. We will be doing a team exercises today," turning into the danger room Raven showed the 10 robots with a box on each of their backs, "these robots have a slip of paper in their box. 5 of them have your names on it."
"Which 5?"
"That, Scott, is your goal. Find your name while defending yourself from the robots. Do it as quickly as possible, your time starts... now"
The robots jumped to life,
"Here's the-"
Peter was moving before Scott finished his sentence, pulling his googles on he began to run,
It wasn't a hard process checking the slips just tendency,
opening the boxes, picking the slip up turning it over, check the name, close the box
opening the boxes, picking the slip up turning it over, check the name, Jean, close the box
opening the boxes, picking the slip up turning it over, check the name, close the box
opening the boxes, picking the slip up turning it over, check the name, close the box
opening the boxes, picking the slip up turning it over, check the name, Peter, close the box
opening the boxes, picking the slip up turning it over, check the name, close the box
opening the boxes, picking the slip up turning it over, check the name, Ororo, close the box
opening the boxes, picking the slip up turning it over, check the name, close the box

opening the boxes, picking the slip up turning it over, check the name, Kurt, close the box
opening the boxes, picking the slip up turning it over, check the name, close the box
opening the boxes, picking the slip up turning it over, check the name, Scott, close the box
After finding the last name he ran back to the others handing them each of their slips he allowed time to flow normally.
"-plan" Scott looked at his hands registering the slip of paper "PETER"
"What. I did the task."
"That wasn't the point," Raven cut in "you where meant to work as a team to do it."
"It was just easier for me to do it, I'm faster."
Raven rubbed her forehead, "Put them back and lets try again, as a team."
As the slips where replaced and the robots where reactivated, Peter couldn't ignore Ravens glare. Why was she so annoyed? She'd been a lone wolf for ages refusing to work with anyone. She had no right to judge him when he ran ahead.
"FOCUS PETER" Raven yelled as a robot swung to hit him, he dogged it easily running over to where Jean was standing pulling her out the way before she was grabbed.
"thanks" She said before a bolt of lightning separated the two,
"ORORO AVOID YOUR TEAM MATES"
Peter rolled opening the box of a robot, the slip had no name on it,
"I checked zat already" Kurt spoke popping up next to him,
"Can't tell which of these have been checked. HEY BOSS, DO WE HAVE A PLAN?"
"YES" Scott yelled back blasting robots "CHECK ALL THE BOXES"
"THAT DOESN'T HELP-" before he could Finnish his sentence something crashed into him,
"SORRY" Jean shouted as she pulled the robot off him,
"CANCEL SIMULATION" Ravens voice rung out. As the robots powered down she entered the room,
"Feed back" she started "Scott, you need to give clear instructions, when your planning you need to consider all angles. You need to lead by example"
"Yes"
"Jean, you need to get a better handle of your powers, they are incredible but you lose confidence and that affects your performance. You very strong you just need to believe in yourself"
"Alright"
"Ororo, your long range attacks are strong and consistent but you need to work detailed attacks to be able to adapt to any situation"
"Yep"
"Kurt, your amazing as a support but you have potential to be a great offence and you need to get out of your comfort zone"
"Dank you"
"Peter" Ravens tone shifted "you need to work with your team, you can't be a one man army and you need to rely on your team. Your either a one man army or a support you need to be able to do offence with your team"
"Got it"
"You also need to stay present, your never focused on what your doing, your staring off at a random places. You also argue with your teammates instead of doing what your told. Maybe that bump will teach you a lesson. Your all free to go"
"She just hates me, that's the only reason she targets me."
"Totally" Ororo didn't take her eyes off the magazine she was reading,
"There has to be some rule against targeting a student."
"Your not a student"
"Well- shut up"
"Just because she gives you some extra notes doesn't mean she's picking on you"
"She does it every time though."
"Because you never listen" she said swotting him with the now rolled up magazine,
"I listen, I just don't take it to heart."
"Your impossible"
"I'm amazing"
"Sure"
"Dinner is ready" Kurt said popping into the room,
"Thanks blue-beetle"
The mansion was quiet, all the kids had gone to bed a couple hours ago. Peter walked quietly through the hallways trying not to wake anyone. Walking towards the kitchen he heard voices,
"You have got to tell him"
"I don't gotta do shit"
"So you never going to tell him?"
Peaking through the door he saw Erik and Raven sitting on the floor surrounded by bottles,
"He said he didn't care about his parents so he doesn't need to know"
"I think the Christian would like to know his dad's the devil."
"He wasn't the devil, he was just red,"
"With horns, and a tale"
"Shut up. Your they guy with an ex wife he has avoided for 25 years,"
"22, and she hates me there's no point trying to talk to her"
"Anything beats the fuck eyes your making at my brother."
"I'm not making-"
Peter creped away from the door, the smell of alcohol was making him nauseas. It reminded him of his mum.
Walking through the hallways Peter found a window seat. Sitting down he started to think. He needed to call his mum, he hadn't talked to her since he'd went to find magneto in Poland. Not that she was worried about him. Even since the Pentagon she'd refused to take part in his life.
"I don't care if you want to waste your life in this basement only leaving to do crimes, but I'm not going to spend the rest of my life trying to make you change your life"
After that she'd stopped trying. She'd let him spend days in the basement, not caring what he did,
"He's 17 now, he needs to take action in his own life"
That's what she told anyone who asked, they never questioned it. He was a high school burnout who's only accomplishment was being the top runner in his track team.
"Pete?"
Turning Peter saw a young boy standing in a door way,
"Hey Jamie, what's wrong?"
"Can't sleep."
"Come here" the young boy crawled into Peters arms, "What's keeping you up?"
"Nightmare"
"Scary?"
"Yeah"
"My mum use to sing me a lullaby when I had nightmares, want me to sing it to you,"
"Yes please"
(SUNG IN GERMAN)
In front of the barracks, in front of the big gate
There's a lantern and it's still in front of it
We want to see each other there again
We want to stand by the lantern
Like before, Lili Marleen
Like before, Lili Marleen
Our two shadows looked like one
You could see straight away that we loved each other
And everyone should see it
When we stand by the lantern
Like before, Lili Marleen
Like before, Lili Marleen
She knows your steps, your beautiful walk
She burns every evening, but she forgot me for a long time
And should harm happen to me
Who will stand by the lantern
With you, Lili Marleen?
With you, Lili Marleen?
From the silent space from the ground of the earth
Your loving mouth lifts as if in a dream
When the late mists turn
Who will stand by the lantern?
With you, Lili Marleen?
With you, Lili Marleen?
When the late mists turn
Who will stand by the lantern?
With you, Lili Marleen?
With you, Lili Marleen?
Looking down he saw Jamie had fallen asleep,
"You speak German?"
A voice drew Peters attention
"Though you where drunk" he said picking Jamie up,
"I have a high limit and Hank threated to tell Charles,"
"He never seemed like a partier" Peter crossed the hallway, entering the room he tucked Jamie into bed,
"Where did you learn that song"
"My mother sang it to me when I was little,"
"Is she German?"
"She was Polish, lived in Germany for a little thou"
"You speak polish?"
"A little, I was raised in Ukraine, so I'm more fluent in Ukrainian then Polish."
"We should speak it together. I'm quiet fluent so I can help fill in some gaps."
"Thanks man, appreciate it"
"Good night"
"Night"
Dad
