"Eddie do you ever think about the fact that the earth travels 1.6 million miles in a day?"
They're lying on their backs on the trampoline in the yard, looking up at the stars.
"Wait really? 1.6 million miles?"
"Yeah... going about 18 miles per second and yet it feels like we're standing still...."
"I don't know.....I think sometimes I can feel it.."
"Wait really? when?"
"Idk like. on the heels of a close call or. seconds before we jump into a life threatening situation....."
"Yeah."
"That night I finally asked you out...."
Buck looks over at eddie at that.
"Wait Eddie what? You’ve never....."
"Well......, what do u think?" Eddie turns his head. Faces Buck. His eyes are prettier than the stars to Eddie anyway. He’s nervous.
“Would you say yes? If I asked you? ....if I asked you out on a date?"
"Eddie....but you're . you're straight!” Buck blurts out.
"Buck," Eddie laughs, he puts a hand over his eyes then looks back at Buck.
“Oh Buck....its like you notice everything about me except the way I feel about you.....can pick out my cologne but couldn't tell the secret I’ve been holding onto for years.....that I’m in love with you."
He’s fond and staring at Buck like he loves him. Because he does. And it feels so, so good to finally feel it uninhibited.
"Eddie..." Buck is reeling, smiling awestruck.. "|-yes. absolutely. yes." "Yes!" he adds again for good measure.
Eddie laughs and leans up so he's resting on his elbow. The weight change makes the trampoline dip and push both of them together. Buck is looking up at Eddie like he's the most beautiful, wonderful thing he's ever seen....
Eddie leans down...flicks a glance to Buck’s lips....
“And what about now, Buckley....still feel like you're standing still?"
"No.." Buck shakes his head minutely, quick, scared to move too much like he might break this illusion. "Feels like im flying. Like I’m moving 18miles per second."
Eddie smiles at that...
"Me too, bud." He admits, slightly breathlessly, as he leans down and kisses him ..under the stars..
As the earth hits the 1.6million mile mark.
