Chapter Text
They found her near Haven wandering aimlessly about, strangely dressed girl of about 19 or 20, dark long hair, crystal blue eyes, soft pale skin, "miss, what are you doing out here?", a soldier asked. "I am a bit lost", the girl said, the confusion pouring out of her like water from a fountain, "my name's Enid". The girl had a soft musical lilt to her voice, and it was obvious she was far from home, "you better come with us, miss, you'll catch your death of cold if you stay out here". Not wanting to appear rude and not knowing where she was, she nodded and followed the soldiers to the wooden village
They were people of all ages in the village, they all seemed to be wearing really old fashioned clothing as did the soldiers, Enid mentally noted as the soldiers walked her to a stone building at the back of the village. They opened the doors and took her inside, they walked her into an office where a tanned skinned woman sat behind a desk, "Ambassador Montilyet", the soldier announced, "we found this young lady wandering outside the village". The ambassador appraised the strangely dressed young woman in skintight clothing that showed off every curve, there was no visible stitching anywhere on clothing, leather boots, soft leather jacket or leather bag she carried, "please take a seat", she said to the young woman who swayed as she walked
"So could you tell us who you are, Miss?", Josephine began, "Enid, just call me Enid ", the young woman replied, absent mindedly, still wondering about the medieval look about the place. "Enid, can you tell me how you came to be wandering about outside Haven?", the ambassador was rather curious as how such a girl dressed like her came to be outside Haven. "I was going home after university when I was pulled through this green tunnel and ended up her, wherever this is", she answered still confused. "Haven, in the Frostback Mountains", the Ambassador answered helpfully
Enid still had no clue, "well I was waiting for the train back home, I had just finished my history seminar, but instead of going home I ended up here". The ambassador was about to ask another question when the door opened and a red headed woman wearing a hood came in, "who's the stranger, Josephine?" "Enid", the gold dressed woman answered, "she was found wandering and confused outside the village". The red headed woman saw the deer in the headlights look in the young woman, she had absolutely no idea where she was, nor did it look like that she came from the area
Enid was also fairly small, maybe about 5ft 2 with a petite frame, smaller than the 2 women she was in the room with, she felt somewhat intimidated by their presence, another feeling that was noticed by the pair. "You said you'd came through a green tunnel?", Josephine prodded, hoping to get more from Enid, "yeah, it was really weird, like I said I was walking towards the train station when I found myself in this strange tunnel, I felt myself getting pushed forward and fell out of some crazy hole and landed here, it was all weird and that, I heard strange voices or at least I think I did, I don't know"
The 2 women looked at each another with concerned looks, "what did these voices say?", the red head asked, "I don't know, I couldn't make it out or even tell if they were real", Enid still confused, replied, not knowing what to say. The red head was also curious about the bag, "what's in the bag?" "Oh, just my stuff for university", Enid off handedly gave out, not really thinking about it before the red head casually took the bag off her, opened it up and placed the contents on the table, "hey, that's my stuff", Enid protested as the contents of her bag were emptied out onto the table
They were a couple of books, Josephine took one of them, she could not read the writing, but the pictures clearly disturbed her, they showed pictures of mass torture, of skeletal people crammed in a confined space, she kept looking through the book and saw a man in strange white armour standing on rocky gray surface. Josephine asked, rather shaken, "what are these pictures, what kind of book is this?" "That's my 20th century history book, that picture shows the Holocaust", Enid answered thinking that they would know what that was. "Holocaust?", the red head enquired
Enid looked at her as if she had just done a 100 year Rip Van Winkle, "er, the extermination of 12 million people, half of them Jews, the others being Slavs, Gypsies, homosexuals, bisexuals, the handicapped, minority religious groups and other people that were considered undesirable by Nazi Germany, surely you must have heard of it?" Blank, but shocked looks from the 2 women, "12 million?", Josephine was trying to keep herself calm, "yeah", Enid answered, "it happened during the Second World War, over 70 million were killed in it". "70 MILLION?", Josephine was struggling to keep herself from fainting
"What kind of rock have you been hiding under?", Enid could tell by their looks that they had never heard of any of this and was dismayed that anyone could have not of heard of such an event. The red head ignored the question and continued to take more stuff out of the bag, she took 3 strange items made of a strange material, metal and glass, "what are these?" she demanded. "That's my I-Phone, tablet and solar charger", Enid happily answered, the I-Phone suddenly played a jingle causing the 2 women to slightly jump, "what's that, what's going on?", the red head demanded, her eyes narrowing
Enid sighed, "it'll be my mum, just touch the green bit on the screen there", Josephine tentatively touched the green panel and the face of an older woman with features similar to Enid appeared on it, she saw Josephine's face, "who are you?", the woman asked cautiously, "why do you have my daughter's phone, let me speak to her?" "You can hear me?", Josephine was trying to figure out how this was possible, "of course, I can hear you", the woman said as if it should be obvious, which to her it was, "that's what phones are for, now let me talk to my daughter". Josephine gave the phone to Enid
"Enid, where are you, you didn't come home last night?", her mother sounded understandably worried as she spoke, "hi, mum, I don't know where I am, there seems to ba great green whirlpool in the sky for some reason", Enid told her mother. "Green whirlpool in the sky?", her mother questioned, puzzled by what her daughter just said, "yes, has their been nothing on the news about it?", Enid was starting to get really worried. "Nothing, where have you ended up?", her mother was now starting to get just as worried, "they say it's a place called Haven in something called the Frostbacks"
"I've never heard of it", her mother's face frowned, "tell me how you got there". Enid told the mother the story of how she got where she was, it took the good part of an hour to explain, even to herself, the call ended with her mother trying to reassure her frantic daughter that she would do everything to find her. Enid started to babble incoherently, they took the decision to take the young girl to one of the cabins, they gave something to calm her nerves and help her fall asleep. "Poor girl", Josephine had every sympathy for her, it was now obvious she was far from home
Josephine and Leliana told the others about the strange young woman, showing them items from her bag, "she used this here to talk to her mother", Josephine showed them the I-Phone that she had used. Solas took a look at it, "I've never seen anything like it", Varric then added, "I can't even tell what's it made of". The next day arrived, and Josephine decided to return the bag to Enid, she went to the cabin to give it back, she heard 2 other voices speaking with Enid and assumed that 2 of the villagers had made friends with the newcomer. She opened the door, she dropped the bag in pure shock and she ran and called out for Cullen and Cassandra, who quickly came over with Solas and Varric
"Oh, hi there, whoever you are, come and meet my new friends", Enid greeted the Quintet, "this is Faith and Deirdre, say hello, guys". Oh, they greeted Enid's new friends alright, "MAKER, GIVE ME STRENGTH", Cassandra cried out as she and Cullen drew out their swords, Josephine picked up the bag, ran in, grabbed Enid and got her out of the cabin. Solas took out his staff and Varric primed Bianca, "hey, what are you doing, they aren't doing anything wrong, you're not going to hurt them are you?", Enid protested as Josephine dragged her towards the Chantry
