Chapter 1
"Are you sure?" Maddie Han stood in front of her younger brother, who had light curly hair, blue eyes and a birthmark above his left eye. Evan 'Buck' Buckley nodded his head. He had a pair of crutches and a cast on his leg..
"Yes, I just need to get away from LA for a while", Buck said to her. "I just can't be around everything right now, and this place was recommended to me ages ago, and I only just remembered it; it would be good for me. I will be fine, Maddie, and I will have my phone if you need me" Maddie nodded.
"Okay, Evan, you know I always worry," Buck kissed her cheek. "Make sure you say goodbye to your niece before you leave," she said to him. "She is going to miss you," Maddie smiled.
"And I will miss my girl as well; I will make sure that I see her before I leave, all three of you," Maddie said, nodding her head. "I have to finish packing as well. I have still got lots to do; I will see you later," Buck said to her.
"Of course, for dinner," Maddie said
"Wouldn't miss it, Mads. Do you want me to bring anything?" Maddie shook her head. "I can buy something 'cause trying to bake like this is a no", Buck told her.
"Promise you don't need to bring anything", Maddie said
"Okay", he smiled, "I can see you out", he said to her. Maddie put her hand out.
"Yeah, no, you're meant to be resting", Maddie told him. "I know how to get out of it", Buck nodded and sighed. He shook his head and watched as she left.
Buck sighed and moved over to his sofa, sitting down. He placed the crutches down and sighed. His head went back, and he closed his eyes, his phone started ringing, he took it out of his pocket and had a look at it, he sighed and answered it "Hello, yeah I'm at home now I packed the last of your thing if you want to come and get them, I will leave it out side my door, I don't want to see you" he hung up and leaned his head back again.
"Hmmm", Buck sighed and grabbed his crutches, got up from the sofa, made his way to the kitchen, and opened the fridge. He took out a bottle of water. "I am going to enjoy this bloody break," he said, so he made his way back to the sofa and sat down. He picked up the remote and turned on the TV. 'I am not moving from this spot, not for anyone or anything. '
-----------------------------------------------------------
Buck sighed. "I will get the bag out for you," the cab driver said to him; he looked in the mirror at Buck, who nodded his head. "I can come up to the reception with you".
"If you can, thanks so much, Buck said to him; he opened the door and struggled to get out; he stood up and leaned in, grabbed his crutches and then shut the door. The driver took out his bag, and they walked up.
"Hope you have a great break away," the driver said, opening the door, and they walked in. "Eddie should be around somewhere," he said, placing his bag down next to Buck.
"Thank you", Buck said and watched as the guy left; Buck looked around the reception, which had a calm atmosphere. "I think I am going to like it here", he said and pressed the bell and waited; there was no answer "Hello, anyone here?" he called. There was no answer. He made a face and turned round. He pushed down on his crutches and opened the door. He walked out.
Buck stopped after and breathed. He looked over; there was a small house, part of which was hidden among some trees. "Maybe there is someone in there," he said, walking over, knocking on the door, and waiting. The door opened, and a woman answered, "Hi, um, I was wondering if you could help me", Buck said.
"Yes"
"I just came from the lodges, and no one is here; I have one booked", he said and made a face. "Do you have a chair I could use?"
"Oh, you poor dear, sorry you're giving me a moment," Buck nodded as she disappeared inside and then came out, placing a chair down. Buck shuffled and sat. "You must be waiting for my nephew Edmundo", she said to him and stood up straight properly. "My name is Josephine".
"Oh, I'm Buck, well, Evan, but I prefer Buck." Josephine nodded. "Sorry, I am early, so" Buck said to him.
"Eddie takes his boat out at around this time, so," Buck nodded. "I can give you directions to where he is, or could wait here," Buck shook his head.
"No, I like to move around; I should be fine, Ma'am".
"None of this, ma'am, call me Pepa" Buck nodded his head. "Okay, just go the way you came, but take the left, and it should lead you to the water." Buck nodded his head and got up from his chair, picking up his crutches.
"Thanks"

Buck stopped and looked around. There was no sign of anyone. He turned slightly, and there was a sudden splash; he turned and watched the water, someone walked out of the water, a man which was obvious from the dark short hair, slight stubble and a sprinkling of chest hair, Buck's eyes slowly moved down the man's wet tight body, he was wearing board shorts "oh great googly moogly" Buck licked his lips and swallowed 'okay keep your eyes above the waist line Buckley' the man ran his fingers through is wet hair and came to a stop just at the edge of the water, he looked up and smiled.
"Um, hi", Buck said and waved his hand. The man, whom Buck assumed was Edmundo, walked up and came to a stop. "I was just enjoying the view", Buck blushed.
Edmundo raised an eyebrow at him. "The view?" he asked, looking down at his own body and then back at Buck.
"The landscape", Buck gestured with one of his crutches, red cheeks still visible on his embarrassed face, "not that", he then gestured to Edmundo's body. "That, sorry I'm Buck," he said and held his hand out. Edmundo shook it "I am your new guest", Buck told him.
"Right, I am Eddie Diaz", Eddie said to him.
"Pleased to meet you, Eddie", Buck said to him. "I turned up at the lodge, and no one was there, so I made my way to the house next door; your aunt sent me this way, I am a little early " Buck explained to him, Eddie grabbed a hold of the towel that was on the chair and dried his hair.
"That's fine; I have my car here so you can get back earlier; I just need to do something at my Tia's before we go back" he grabbed a hold of the pants and put them on and a shirt but didn't button them up "my car is this way" Buck nodded.
-----------------------------------------
Eddie drove the Jeep along the road. "So I hope it is not too rude to ask, but what happened, if you don't mind me asking, that is," Eddie said.
"No, it's fine, I am a firefighter," Buck said to him and looked out the window "a guy that my captain had a dealing with, when he was a teenager, his dad got arrested for burning down his restaurant and my captain proved it and the teenager now an adult blamed him, cause his dad died in prison from cancer and we think it set him of and blew up the firetruck and I happened to be in it" Buck said to him "crushed my leg I have had numerous operations" Buck explained "screws were put in, I was put on blood thinners" he carried on explaining.
"I am so sorry to hear that", Eddie said to him. Buck moved his head and looked ahead.
"Hmmm, so I decided I needed to get away while I was getting better, and I remember someone mentioned a place they stayed at for their honeymoon, and here I am" Buck smiled at him.
Eddie nodded his head. "What a coincidence, I am also a firefighter, well, part-time, and the other half I am at the lodge," Buck nodded his head. "Ah, we're here," he said, stopping the car and getting out. " Won't be long," he said and walked to the house. The door opened, and Pepa appeared. They started talking; Pepa looked over Eddie's shoulder and waved at Buck, who waved back with a smile, Eddie turned and looked over at Buck and then turned round, Eddie took a step back and some one else walked out, a young boy around 14 walked out, he had light curly hair glasses and a pair of ctuches.
Eddie ruffled the boy ahead and said something, and the boy started moving towards the car, Eddie went back to talking to Pepa, the boy stopped nad looked at Buck and smiled as he walked to the back and opened the door "hi" the boy said and got in and placed his crutches next to him.
"Hi", Buck smiled
"You know I don't mind watching him for a bit, Eddie", Pepa said to him, and Eddie turned to look back at her. "Don't forget you're coming to dinner at the weekend, don't forget".
"I won't; I will see you then," Eddie said, kissing her cheek.
"He is a very handsome man, Eddie", Pepa suddenly said, and Eddie raised an eyebrow "What, I have eyes?" Pepa stated, "So sue me, maybe you could have a little fun while he's here".
"Pepa", Eddie blushed and shook his head. "I will see you for dinner," Pepa nodded, and watched as Eddie left, then made his way back to the car and got in. She watched from the open doorway until the car drove away. Pepa sighed and turned back, entering the house.
"Are you staying in one of our lodges?" the boy asked. Buck looked in the mirror at himself and nodded his head. "Cool, oh sorry, I'm Christopher Diaz, and this is my dad, Eddie," he said as Eddie got in the car and started the engine.
Buck grinned, "I am Evan Buckley, but I prefer my nickname, so I am Buck", Buck said to him. Christopher nodded his head.
"Please don't call me Christopher. I like Chris," he grinned at Buck, and Buck nodded his head "Hey, Dad, what are we having for dinner?" Chris asked him.
"Didn't Pepa feed you?" Eddie asked, pulled out, and started driving.
"Yeah," Chris rolled his eyes, "I mean an actual dinner and not a sandwich because Tia Abeula only had bread and ham." Chris sighed. "So, can we order something? Buck could eat with us before he settles in?" Chris asked.
"You can't just make decisions for someone you just met, Christopher," Eddie tutted, "and don't roll those eyes, Chris sighed and pouted.
"It's okay", Buck said to him. "I do that a lot too," Buck told him, "but I am pretty hungry. It was a long drive from the airport, well, for the driver, not for me, would be pretty hard, huh, Chris?" Chris grinned at him, and Eddie chuckled, shaking his head.
"Food, it is then."
---------------------------------------------------
"This is the kitchen, which you are welcome to use anytime," Eddie said to them. They stood in the kitchen. "I unlock the door when Chris goes to school; that's around eight, depending on what clubs he has to go to," Buck nodded his head. Eddie held a key out. "I will show you where to go," he said with a smile. "You are lodge number 3." Buck took it from him.
"Thank you, Eddie", Buck said to him "I will get settled and make my way back for dinner. Do you have a time?" he asked. Eddie nodded.
"It says in about an hour, give or take", Eddie told him ", I can take your bag" Eddie picked it up, "and show you the way", Eddie explained to him.
"Thank you", Buck said, and they made their way out of the house and walked along the side of the house and and got to the lodge, Buck unlocked the door "see you soon" Eddie placed Buck's bag by the inside of the door Eddie smiled and turned around. He walked back to his house.
Buck stared at the closed door. "Oh boy", he turned and picked up the bag and threw it one-handed to the nearby sofa "his fucking hot Jesus" he pushed down on the crutches and made his way to the couch and sat down, "hmm" he moved his hand under his butt and pulled something out, it was a photo of a younger almost teenage looking Eddie with a woman with long light hair the same colour as Christopher's, a infant Chris was swaddled in the woman's arms "this must be his wife, damn shame, where is she. However" he hummed and moved it to the table "I will have to take it with me later" he put his head back. He closed his eyes, "Hmm, so tired", he yawned.
