“Oh! Are these freckles?”
“Wha-?!”
Fiona nearly teleports to the bathroom to look in the mirror. It’s far from what she has in mind, but there are indeed small brownish dots here and there on her cheeks.
“Ahhhh… I can’t believe this… I swear I’ve been careful,” sighs Fiona.
The young woman examines her face further. As she moves away a strand of hair, she notices a dividing line on her wrist. Her hand is a tint darker than the rest of her forearm. And taking a second look in the mirror, the same is true for her face as well. She has a tan…
Fiona lets out an annoyed sigh.
“So you have a tan. It’s perfectly normal in summer to get more colours,” says Tsubame with a smile.
Her partner is right.
But in the summer, Fiona usually stayed indoors. Studied, indoors. Read, indoors. Wrote, indoors.
And yet, she had let herself get scurried away by her partners on outdoor adventures. Not that Fiona had resented the activities. They were quite nice, even. It’s just that…
She takes in another look in the mirror and sighs anew.
“Concealing this will be a pain… Please, tell me they’ll disappear.”
Her partner comes to her in the bathroom and hugs her from behind.
“Those little tiny dots, I like them. They’re cute.”
Fiona stares anxiously at her.
“Yes. They will, about the same time as your tan. Give it a few weeks.”
“A few weeks…”, parrots Fiona, dejected.
“Well, in the meantime, I will take in the beauty of your sight, every detail, down to the very freckle,” she says as she kisses her cheeks tenderly. “I’ll be reminded of the quality time we’ve spent together this summer.”
“If you insist, I’ll let them be. For you.”
Fiona turns in their embrace toward Tsubame so she can kiss her on the cheek.
