What a beautiful black sky.
Was what Sougo Tokiwa thought as he stared blissfully from the balcony, loud voices energetically and cheerfully chatting behind.
On the last day of 2024, Sougo, Geiz, Tsukuyomi, and Woz were invited to another rider meeting at Kureshima residency, this time it's a party to celebrate the new year. The young king, however, was tired after the long hours he spent talking with his seniors and juniors. The newest riders, Hotaro, Rinne, and Spanner were a fun trio and Sougo enjoyed getting to know them.
Now that the brown-haired young adult silently left his peers and entered the balcony, he opted to enjoy the scenery.
- Sougo, why aren’t you with your friends?
Sougo smiled.
- I should ask you the same, Sento-san.
The genius physicist came to stand beside Sougo, just staring at the sky without any word.
After all, who needs words when the context is already clear for both riders?
As they stood there, Sougo refrained from moving closer to Sento’s warm body. He doesn’t know if Sento would like that action and the king would rather not push the line of friendship between them with romance.
- …Hey, Sougo. – Said the king glanced questioningly at Sento who spoke with unusual softness. – That star… do you think it’ll ever shine as bright as the others?
The young adult traced to where his senior was staring and saw a lone star a bit far from the other stars. Of course, it was also slightly dimmed compared to its peers. However…
Sougo just smiled, and grabbed Sento’s hand, making him jolt in surprise as the genius finally turned to stare at him.
- Of course it will. After all, it has another star that is next to it. It is not alone, and this star is so bright that it helps its friend to shine as brightly as it can. It’s beautiful, don’t you think?
Sento fell silent, contemplating.
Then, to Sougo’s surprise, the brunette slightly blushed and turned away, not even pushing himself from Sougo’s hand.
That’s…cute coming from his own usually composed predecessor, but Sougo didn’t mind it at all.
He wanted to see all of Sento Kiryuu’s expressions, sides, everything.
Maybe that’s his greediness as a king, but it’s something Sougo wanted to do.
Voices behind them were getting louder, but both riders didn’t need to glance behind, already knowing, what was coming next.

Sougo turned to Sento questioningly. The physicist was still flustered but had an unusually shy expression. This worried Sougo. Should he ask his senior what’s wrong?

As the young king opened his mouth, Sento quickly kissed him, while at the same time fireworks were exploding in the sky. However, this kiss felt like an eternity to both riders.

Oh. Sougo thought dumbly but after a moment smiled so brightly that it could rival the stars’ light and fireworks above them.

Their hands adjusted to let their fingers intertwine tightly. And neither let go.
