Legoshi was happily whistling while he finished up cleaning the floor of the Udon restaurant he worked in.
The wolf boy plopped down the mop in its basin and exhaled with a smile, looking over the cleaned up hall.
It was early in the evening and the restaurant was in preparation for the evening opening.
A beautiful orange light entered from the open windows and reflected on the dark coloured wet floor.
“A good job as always Legoshi.”Said a voice coming from his lower right, followed by a soft pat on his lower back.
He looked down to see his boss, Sunaga, looking with a smile at the room.
“Thank you sir”Answered the boy happily, his tail wagging softly.
“You know, you’re handling very well the promotion, even better than I expected.”He said looking up to the wolf.
Legoshi peered to the small metal badge appointed to his white service polo.
It read: ‘Legoshi - Head Waiter’.
“I try my best, sir.”Replied Legoshi.
“Well, keep going on strong like this, and maybe if everything goes smoothly as planned, you may become head of the restaurant”Said Sunaga, patting him again on the leg and going back in the kitchen.
Legoshi’s tail picked up in speed at his words.
The ‘new' job basically just as before, minus the fact that he was not a delivery boy anymore and he had to handle more the clients and the other two waiters working at the restaurant.
He decided to not let the compliments go to his head and put away the mop before the first patrons came in.
Less the new minutes later, as if on command, animals came in took seat, and in half an hour the place was almost full.
But as every Thursday night, people also went away quickly, plus Bebebe restaurant was not really a place for consuming long meals.
By half past nine, only few tables were still occupied.
Legoshi was already already setting up again the tables for the next day when a chime came from the entrance.
The door opened and a familiar girl entered the restaurant.
She was a young wolf with a dark rust-red colored fur that covered most of her body, alternated by a cream color very similar to his own.
She was wearing a ribbed-black tank top and a pair of sporty white shorts with a black band going up the sides.
Her blue eyes were darting around until they fell on him.
A smile immediately painted her face.
Without a single word she walked towards him and flung her arms around his neck.
Flabbergasted, he let go of the napkins he was holding and hugged her back.
They separated few moments after, with her having a big smile on her lips.
“Juno”He said almost breathless.
“Hi Legoshi, I’m so happy to see you!”She said, with her tail wagging.
“I’m happy too, it’s been like…”He paused, counting in his head.
“Since my birthday, so like 6 months.”She interjected.
“Yea, it’s true”He replied, scratching the back of his head.
They stood there silent for a moment before Juno spoke again.
“Anyway, am I still in time to have dinner?”
“Ah, yes yes of course, the kitchen doesn’t close for another hour. Let me get you a table.”
That said, Legoshi led her to a nearby two-seat table, already set up.
He held out the chair for her and once she sat, he flipped our a small paper notepad and a pen.
“Without giving a menu, what do you suggest me?” She asked, posing her head on one hand and looking up to him.
“Hmmm, we have our classic carnivore meal, you can never go wrong with that. Good price and a fair variety of ingredients.”He suggested.
“I usually eat it with two extra eggs, because… You know, I like them”He said sheepishly.
“Well, I guess I’m taking the Legoshi special then, and still water to drink thank you”She said.
“Thank you, I’m coming back soon with everything.”
He turned around and got back to the kitchen delivering the order and preparing the water bottle and a glass on a tray.
Few minutes later a warm and fuming plate of udon was placed over the tray by his colleague Mika the lioness.
She looked at him with a provoking smile her eyes darting between him and the she-wolf sitting few meters behind.
“No, Mika, she’s just a friend.”He said before she could open her mouth.
The lioness pouted in response, before turning back to the kitchen.
The wolf snorted, grabbed the tray and went back to his friend.
He posed the tray on the table and placed the dish in front of the she-wolf, which licked her lips in hunger.
“Thank you Legoshi”She said, breaking the chopsticks.
“You’re welcome”He said, before returning to the counter.
As soon as he posed the tray back in its place, Sunaga emerged from the kitchen.
He looked at the hall and, once noticed the wolf girl, he turned o look at Legoshi.
“Is she a friend of yours?”He asked, his voice low.
“Yea, why?”
“Just asking…”Replied the owl.
Few moments later the last customers stood up and left the restaurant, having paid their tab ten minutes before.
“Tell you what, set up that last table and then you’re free to go for the evening.”Said Sunaga.
“You sure? We still have to clean and-”
“Yea yea, don’t worry, prepare that table and sit down with your friend, I’m gonna make your dinner.”Said his boss, returning to the kitchen.
So Legoshi did what he was told to do, and in less than five minutes the last table was already set up.
He then returned to Juno’s table.
“Mind if I sit with you, apparently my shift is ending sooner this evening.”He said, grabbing a chair.
“Of course not, sit down.”She said, before slurping up a glob of udon.
Moments later, Mika arrived with a tray with the same dish he described earlier to Juno.
“Enjoy”She said with a smile, before squeezing a bit his shoulder while leaving.
Juno smiled at the gesture.
“How long have you been working here? Four years almost, right?” She asked, pointing the sticks at him, while he was wolfing down his udon.
“Yea, it’s been four years in January.”He replied between a mouthful and another.
“From what I see, you get along with everyone”She said.
”Yea, everybody here is really nice, we’re kinda like a family. ”
“Plus, I got promoted few weeks ago” He said, showing off his badge.
She squinted to look at what was written on it.
“Ah, head waiter, that’s nice Lego, congratulations”She said with a smile.
“Eheheh, thanks”He said, sheepishly.
He then returned to finish his meal, while Juno flipped out her phone.
Legoshi stole some glances at her, noticing that there was something different in her look after all.
The tufts of fur that used to be one her ears were gone now, leaving space to a shorter and well combed fur, that made her ears look more sharp.
Overall also the fur on the rest of her body looked a tad shorter and more curated.
“Did you trim your fur?”He asked her, once he finished his meal.
“Ah yea. Do you like it?”She said, passing a hand on her cheek.
“Yea, you look more, professional? So to say. Definitely attractive though.”He said, before chastising himself mentally.
Juno blushed a bit.
“Eheh, thanks I’m glad you like it”.
“Why did you cut it, though?”Asked the boy.
She put her phone back in her pocket, before leaning on the table and posing her head on her hands.
“I was dating this guy a few months back. We just texted at first, then once we met, one of the first thing he said me was: ‘You kind a look like a dog’”
Legoshi grimaced.
“And I was like: ‘Sorry, what?’”
“And then he goes: ‘Yea, you got all that long fur on your ears and cheeks, you kinda look like a border collie or something’”She said, mimicking the voice tone of the guy.
“And I stood simply shocked. I tell you that we barely spoke after this and I went home early that night. I was so mad!”She said.
“I can only imagine”He supplied.
“But then I got back in my room at campus, I went to the bathroom, getting ready for the night and I looked at the mirror. And fuck, he was so right! I just, could not unsee it anymore!”She exclaimed.
“So the morning after I spent my micro-economy lesson looking at videos for DIY fur trimming and after I got back I tried to cut it.”
“Few iterations later, now I look like this”She said gesturing to herself.
“Well I’m happy you found a new style.”
“Yea me too, it’s kinda refreshing you know? Feeling a different animal and stuff…”
“Yea…”
After that the conversation died for a bit, Legoshi focussed on finishing the last spoonfuls of noodles, while Juno was watching him intently, almost transfixed.
Once the boy finished, she said:”I… Saw Haru a couple of weeks ago…”
Legoshi grimaced, but stood composed.
He gulped down the last mouthful of pasta he had in his mouth, before dropping the chopsticks back into the bowl.
“Ah…And, how’s she?”He asked, his tone a bit flat.
“You know, as calm as a rabbit can be. She’s planning everything to graduate early next spring.”She said.
“Ah, that’s nice to hear. Kinda suits her, with the botanics major and her passion for flowers.”
“Yea, that’s exactly what I thought.”
Silence fell again for some seconds.
“So, do you still see each other sometimes right?”She asked.
“Yea yea we’re still friends, it’s just…”He paused with a sigh.
“I guess a part of me still loves her, but not romantically like before. I still wish to see her happy and realised in her life, but knowing that I can’t be the one to make her happy after all I sacrificed for her, it’s just a bit sad, that’s it.”
“But at the same time, If i had not done what I did, maybe I wouldn’t be happy, I wouldn’t have made those experiences that made me who I am now…”
Juno smiled warmly, reaching to grab his hands from across the table, without saying anything she just held his hand, squeezing it just a bit.
He looked up to smile at her covering her hand with the other one.
“Sooo, what do you say, wanna go drink something?”She offered.
Legoshi’s smile widened a bit.
“Yea, I’d love to. I just need to change my self and freshen up a bit. I still smell like food.”
“Do we need to go back to your place?”She asked.
“Nah, I have spare clothes here in my locker, should be good enough for a normal bar.”He replied.
“Cool, than off you go, I’ll be waiting outside.”She let go of his hands, before grabbing it again furiously, her eyes dead serious.
“Don’t even think about paying my tab for me.”She said.
He suddenly felt smaller under her gaze.
“No miss, I won’t.”
“Good boy, now go and get changed.”She patted his hand.
His tail could only wag at her words.
Ten minutes later Legoshi left the locker room with a pair of jeans shorts and a white t-shirt, leaving behind the work clothes in his locker.
He said goodbye to his colleagues and then the two wolves began to walk alongside the road passing in front of the restaurant.
It was nice, since the place was along the coast and the road was few meters above the beach, with the sound of waves clearly audible even from where they were.
“There is a nice bar not too far away from here, I usually go there with my uni friends even if it’s a bit far away from campus. Very tasty drinks and fair prices”She said as they began walking.
“I trust you”replied the boy following her.
As Juno said, in less than fifteen minutes they arrived in a fancy pedestrian zone with festive lights hanged from building to building across the street.
They stopped in front of the entrance of a dimly lit bar, with full glass windows showing the inside of the place.
They entered and luckily it wasn’t too crowded.
Juno spoke with the bartender, which apparently recognised her and he guided them to a small table near the window.
They sat near each other, with Juno turning just a bit to pose her back in the corner between the glass and the cushioned booth.
“What would you like to drink Lego?”She asked.
“Mmm, dunno… Something sweet?”
“Hmm, maybe a Sex on the beach? It’s kinda a girl drink but it’s actually good.”She suggested.
“What are you drinking?”Asked Legoshi.
“My favorite here, Long Island. They make it so perfect, I tell you, it really tastes like lemon tea.”She said.
Less than a minute later, the bartender came and took their orders, assuring to be back as soon as possible with their drinks.
The wolves waited mostly in silence until in fact the drinks arrived.
Legoshi took the fancy glass with the colourful drink inside and took a short sip from the straw.
His eyes widened and he took another sip excitedly, tail wagging.
Juno jiggled at the scene, before she took too a long sip of her drink, already expecting the familiar taste that invaded her mouth.
“You never tried that drink before?”She asked the boy.
“No, never. You know, with my… ahem…condition… I cannot really get much drunk.”Said Legoshi looking at her.
Juno’s eyes widened.
Juno was one of the few who knew about Legoshi’s status as a komodo-dragon hybrid.
Due to his partially reptilian blood, he was also partially immune to venoms, caffeine, and alcohol, which coupled with his big body and mass meant he could basically drink anything without getting wasted.
“Well, try to enjoy it nevertheless, and you should take it as an opportunity to try different things.”
“Yeah, I guess you’re right.”
“Of course I am” She said, winking at him.

They fell into the usual conversation pattern shortly after.
Updates on there respective work-study life, plans for the future, hobbies and all that could follow.
Juno had already finished her drink and ordered another one with an extra shot of vodka of the same type and another sex on the beach for Legoshi, which promptly arrived.
Legoshi, knowing of his resistance, let her do it and sipped the drink with her again.
Juno quickly downed the shot of vodka, before beginning again with the new glass.
Once they basically spent every kind of small-talk topics they could talk about, they couple fell a bit silent, both sipping occasionally their respective beverage.
Suddenly, Juno broke the quiet.
“You know…I…”She hesitated.
“Fuck it”He heard her say under her breath.
“I… have to apologise to you.”She said, looking down at her drink and then back at him.
Legoshi looked at her curiously.
“Why do you have to apologise to me?”
“Because I never understood you, back when we were in high school.”
“I never understood what it meant to stay with an herbivore.”She said.
“I was younger and stupid, not being able to see how the real world worked…”
“I used to think that you were taking the ‘easy choice’, going around with a bunny that you could easily force to be with you, that even if you succumbed to your instincts nobody would have noticed…”A hick escaped from her throat.
“Juno…”Said Legoshi.
“Why are you telling me this?”He asked.
Juno didn’t look at him, instead she looked away.
“I…Almost hurt someone…”She admitted, her ears dropping in shame.
“I…There was this girl in my math class, one year older than me. A zebra.”
“She looked statuary. A perfect and sculpted body and a charming smile.”She said looking down at her glass almost empty, another hick shook her shoulders and chest.
“I approached her and we began to get to know each other.”
“She was really good and we kinda clicked.”She began to shuffle the remaining ice inside the glass with the plastic straw.
“We had a couple of dates, that went really well. One of those we had it in here by the counter.”
“On our third date, we wanted to… fuck, and we got to a love hotel for one night…”
“I was so into it, we made out during all the elevator ride and until we reached the room.”
A redness emerged from the skin beneath the short fur.
“And sex was so good, really. I was on cloud nine.”
“But I had to ruin everything… Moments before I…well…finished, something came over me, I don’t know what.”
“I bit her, on the shoulder.”She said.
“She found it hot at first, but then I was biting harder and harder, I wouldn’t let it go even when she tried to push me off…”
Juno looked away from the glass and into the space in front of her, eyes just a bit wet.
“When I drew blood she literally kicked me off her.”
A sound resembling a dry laugh escaped from her throat.
“I literally flew across the room and crashed against the wall so hard I left a dent into it.”
“When I hit my head falling down to the floor and the stolen breath came back to me, my mind cleared and once I saw what I did, I felt like the ugliest monster in the world.”
“The girl actually was so scared that she thought she had killed me, I hit my head pretty hard and she kicked straight into my chest.”
“When she saw me crying she understood how I was feeling, but I could also smell the raw fear out of her…”
“Needless to say, after that night we fell out and basically stopped seeing each other…”
She inhaled and exhaled heavily before she turned to look back at him.
“So that’s why I have to say sorry to you. I couldn’t understand the strength you needed to stay with an herbivore, to resist your urges and instincts.”She said with a sad tone.
Legoshi in all this was left flabbergasted, but his arms moved almost automatically, reaching out to her and dragging her into a tight hug.
Juno nested her muzzle in the crook of his neck, and another sound resembling a sob escaped from her.
His left hand rose to her nape, and his fingers ran into her fur, caressing and scratching the spot behind one of her ears, while his other hand reached her lower back pulling her closer.
Once she calmed down, they separated.
She smiled, even with teary eyes.
“Thank you, Legoshi. I …I needed to tell you about it. I’m sorry I…kinda broke down” She said, embarrassed.
The boy reached out to grab her hand, holding it.
“That’s ok Juno, you needed to get it all out. I’m glad you told me.”He said warmly.
She smiled and went again for a hug, which he happily reciprocated.
Juno nested again her muzzle in his neck, with his arms all around her she felt safe and protected from all the bad emotions she had just thrown out.
She felt warm and secure.
Eventually, the hug ended again.
“I’m gonna go pay, you stay here, ok?”He said, squeezing a bit her shoulders.
“Yes, thank you, Lego.”She said, laying her back against the booth.
Legoshi quickly paid the tab, and returned to his friend, helping her to stand up.
“You sure you can walk Juno?”He asked, now a bit worried about the status of her friend.
“Yeah yeah, let’s just go.” She said.
“Ok...”
They silently began walking towards the nearest train station.
“Wait… What time is it” Asked Juno.
She then checked it on her phone and her eyes widened.
It was almost 1 A.M.
“Shit!”She exclaimed, maybe a bit loudly.
“There are no more trains right?”Asked Legoshi.
“Yea… I totally lost track of time…”
“That’s ok, you can crash at my place.”Offered Legoshi
“I can call a cab Lego, I don’t want to disturb you…”She said, her head dropping a bit from the tiredness.
“Juno, You are not a burden, plus I don’t trust some random guy bringing you home in the heart of the night.”He said.
He took her hand in his.
“We are really close, we can get there in ten minutes”
“I…Ok thank you Legoshi. I’ll pay you back somehow.”She said.
“You don’t have to give me back anything. I‘m helping a friend.”He replied
They began to walk but as they proceeded he noticed Juno stumbling more and more.
“Are you ok?”He asked.
“Yea, I’m just so-” A wide yawn escaped her.
“So tired.”
Legoshi looked at her, from her posture, it looked like she could barely stand.
“Let me carry you.”He said.
This time Juno didn’t object, almost autonomously climbing on the boy’s back and looping her arms around his chest and neck.
“You’re too kind Lego.”She said, posing her muzzle on his shoulder.
He smiled, before returning to walk at a brisk pace toward his home.
After five minutes they reached the Hidden Condo, which now looked mostly like any other normal building, after the renovations paid by Legoshi.
He mounted into the elevator and reached his floor, after that, he flipped out the keys of the door and finally, they were inside the apartment.
The blinds were partially open, letting soft moon rays through the window and illuminating the room.
Legoshi now lived in what could actually be considered an apartment. The size almost doubled, since it was made of two old rooms merged together.
He had a single futon bed on one side of the room, a decent-sized kitchen with an oven, an actual table, and a private bathroom.
Every appliance was new and the paint was still perfect.
In origin, he didn’t want this apartment for himself, but the other tenants and especially his friends insisted on him taking it after the donation he made to the condo.
Legoshi closed the door behind him and navigating in the dark, he gently laid Juno on his bed.
The she-wolf exhaled heavily, her eyes fluttering open.
She just uttered a thank you, with a faint smile forming on her lips, before she returned to sleep.
The boy smiled, before removing her shoes and moving her just so that he could cover her with the sheets.
Juno huddled a bit, exhaling heavily before returning still. Her ribcage raising and falling regularly.
Legoshi then stood up and reached for a couple of thick blankets and a pillow that was stored in a cabinet over the futon.
He laid the blankets on the ground near Juno. He removed his shoes too and laid on the makeshift futon, with his head on the pillow.
Looking one last time at his sleeping companion he too closed his eyes and fell asleep.
“Legoshi”
….
..
“Legoshi please”
“Help please”
He felt a clawed hand desperately grabbing his arm as he jolted awake.
He looked down only to see Juno curled on herself, her face contorted in pain.
“Please…I think I’m gonna-”
A gurgling sound left her throat before she could end the sentence.
Legoshi paled and immediately picked her up, moving as fast as he could toward the bathroom.
When they got in it was already too late, as Juno’s body decided to empty itself from her mouth.
They managed to reach the toilet before the worst came out but the damage had already been done.
Juno was hurling with her muzzle down the toilet, while he kept her up by her forehead.
She was gripping the porcelain as if her life depended on it while what remained of her dinner went down the drain, and with it, a great part of the alcohol she drank that evening.
Between one hurl and another, she couldn’t stop saying she was sorry.
Legoshi could only massage gently her back with his other free hand and look around and at himself.
He had a small trail of vomit down his t-shirt and pants, with droplets on the tiled floor of the bathroom, starting from just beyond the open door.
Juno went on vomiting for a few minutes, in that time Legoshi removed his dirty clothes putting them in a plastic basin he had there with a bit of water and soap, and went to grab a pajama shirt.
With terror, he found all of his cabinets empty except for a clean t-shirt and a pair of shorts.
He then remembered.
Saturday was laundry day, so all of his clothes were dirty and already in the washing pile in the laundry.
Still, he grabbed what he had, and while he did that, he heard the she-wolf retch again a couple of times. He returned to the bathroom with the clothes as he saw her head fall to the side, and Juno ended up sprawled against the wall near the toilet, her eyes closed and breath heavy and ragged.
Legoshi looked at the sorry state his friend was in, with splashes of vomit all over her muzzle, the black top, and her white pants.
He went to her, flushed the toilet without looking what was inside of it, and reached for the toilet paper.
The boy bundled a bit of it and began to dab and remove the vomit from her face.
He then looked a the state of her clothes.
He couldn’t put her back to bed the way she was.
Legoshi decided he was going to change her in his clothes, he could easily sleep in his underwear for that night.
He first started with the top.
He looped her arms around his neck and began to pull up only to find, again with terror, that she was not wearing a bra.
He immediately dropped the top down and exhaled heavily.
He couldn’t do it, not like that.
“Juno…”He called her softly, shaking her shoulders.
Her eyelids fluttered when he called for her the second time.
“Hmmmm, yeah?”She slurred out with eyes half open.
A waft of acid hit Legoshi’s nose, making his eyes almost water.
“You’re all dirty, I need to put you in clean clothes before I get you to bed.”He told her, holding the clean shirt in his hand.
“Hmm that's ok” She said.
She dropped her arms from his shoulder and in one swift move she removed her top in front of Legoshi, which too lately looked up to the ceiling.
Juno then grabbed the shirt and put it on, with no little struggle.
“There” She said.
“We need also to change your pants” He said, grabbing the other clean piece of clothing.
She looked down at her dirty ones.
“ehehe, you’re right Lego” She said.
This time he helped her remove the stained pants and put on the clean ones.
“There, all done now I can get you to bed”
She leaned against him, with her arms around his neck.
He reached under her legs and squatted to stand, picking her weight up.
He returned to the futon and laid the she wolf back down again.
Once done, he quickly returned to the bathroom, grabbed a couple of towels and, once back to Juno, he put them on the pillow and under her face, just in case she had to throw up again.
He then returned to the bathroom, and he tried to clean the place up as best as he could and brush his teeth before going back to bed.
He moved toward the fridge, grabbing a plastic bottle of water and putting it near Juno, just in case she woke up thirsty.
Legoshi exhaled heavily once he laid back again on the folded blankets.
He looked at Juno, seeing her peacefully sleeping curled under the sheets.
Tired, but conscious of having done the right thing, he drifted to sleep.
Strong rays of light filtered through the glass windows and into the room, illuminating it with the warm and vibrant colors of the morning.
Juno’s eyes fluttered, and briefly opened just to immediately and painfully shut again as the offending rays hit her face.
She turned around, burying her face in the pillow and taking a deep breath.
A strong and familiar scent invaded her nose.
Oh, yes, she was in Legoshi’s apartment.
She opened one eye, just a tad to get used to the brightness of the room, and a few moments later she did the same with the other.
She gathered her strength to at least pick up her head, but in opening her mouth a sense of aridity manifested.
When her vision focused again, she found a bottle of water near the bed. Without questions asked she grabbed it and drank it all out with few noisy gulps.
Once she emptied the bottle, she gasped for air, as her head cleared away from the fog of the sleep.
Her mind was recalling the events of the night before. Everything was clear until she started drinking the second Long Island.
From there it was all snapshots.
Herself crying, hugging Legoshi.

The…vomit inside the toilet.
A wave of regret hit her hard, thinking about what happened, as she looked down at herself, seeing that she was dressed in clean and decidedly too-big-for-her clothes.
A new snapshot emerged in her mind: Legoshi asking her to remove her top and to change.
A strong heat rose to her face as she thought about what she did, and the fact that Legoshi asked her to do it instead of doing it himself.
Speaking about Legoshi, she looked around, only to find him sleeping on a couple of folded blankets less than a meter beside the futon.
He was only in his underwear and he was giving his back to her, curled in an almost fetal position.
She looked at him curiously, especially at his exposed back where the now six-years-old scars given to him by Bill still were visible.
She scooted a bit closer to him, still partially wrapped in the bed sheets, and with one hand she reached to touch his bare back.
A couple of fingers glided through his fur and over the scars as she felt the coarse and rugged texture of the healed skin.
She could only imagine how painful they must have been, she remembered that he was barely able to move his back a few days after the incident.
She kept going with her inspection of his back for a few more moments before ceasing and, once her hand stopped touching him, Legoshi inhaled heavily, before rolling around on his back, still asleep.
Juno kept looking at him as he turned, admiring the lean but muscular body of her friend.
Few years ago, she would have given everything to see this view and ascertain that yes, that cream-colored fur went all the way down to-
As soon as her eyes indeed went down towards the lower part of his abdomen a river of heat washed over her.
But, try as she might, she couldn't remove her gaze from the sight of his glorious morning wood trapped underneath the thin layer of cotton of his underwear.
The more she looked at it, the more heat came over her.
"Shit, Haru wasn't joking..." She thought, recalling a conversation she and the rabbit had a few months back.
Her body then moved automatically, getting closer to that heavenly sight.
She hovered over his lower body and a hand gently went for the elastic rim of his underwear, but just when a nail went underneath it, she stopped and retreated, shame replacing the heat.
"What am I thinking?!?"She said in her mind, squinting her eyes.
"It would be so disrespectful, especially after how he cared for me last night, after how he helped me…”
