Chapter Text
The scene opens in a gray background inside of an apartment. There is a man, whose face is unseen to the audience, standing. His hands, covered in blood, are shaking, trembling.
The scene then switches to color, in a cold foggy night in New Liberty City, a kid riding a skateboard; wearing a hoodie, and a beanie, heads to a street corner, he gets off his skateboard. He looks around, and he sees a Hispanic man in a leather jacket.
Kid (Asking): You got the stuff homie?
Hispanic Man (Responds): If you have the merchandise Chico.
The kid pulls out one ten-dollar bill.
Hispanic Man (Responding unimpressed): That’s it. Come on, that’s not enough.
Kid (Begging): Please homie! (Adding a five-dollar bill)
Hispanic Man: [sighs] Okay.
He takes the money from the kid, pulls out a small mini ziplock bag with cocaine inside, handing it to the kid.
Kid (Getting back on his skateboard): Aw, thanks homie!
The man then walks out of the alley, pulling out a cigarette and a lighter. He walks away as he smokes.
Voiceover (Speaking while the man is walking): New Liberty City. The city that never sleeps. On the outside, a beautiful metropolis, a place filled with business, light, and color that attracts tourists. For others, this place is a cesspool. Dirty. Overpopulated with trash, rats, gentrification, and crime. And traffic can be a pain in the ass. But it's still home. For some, this is a city where you can find the worst in people.
Diaz enters an apartment building.
Voiceover: Sometimes when searching for the worst of people, you have to find it yourself. Or find someone who gives a damn.
Inside the apartment building, the man still smoking, pulls out a key from his pocket and opens a door and heads inside then locks his door.
Voice: Hello Mr. Diaz.
Diaz (Confused): What the f***?”
He drops his smoke, and reaches something from his back pocket, pulling out a revolver. He walks around nervous, and heads to his living room.
Voice: Right here.
Diaz turns around, startled, with his gun aimed at a man in the dark with short brown hair, wearing a gray striped dress shirt, a black tie, a black suit vest, black trousers, a long gray trench coat, a gray fedora, and a black domino mask but his brown eyes seen, sitting at his couch. Diaz pulls the trigger but nothing happens.
Masked Man: Looking for these.( Showing him bullets, as he drops them to the ground)
Diaz reacts in confusion and shock.
Masked Man: I see you got back from another score.
Diaz: I don't know what in the hell you're talking about. What are you a f****** cop.
Masked Man: No. Over the last two years you've been running a small operation selling coke, you were arrested for suspicion, but nothing could be proven.
Diaz: So? What’s it to you?
Masked Man: Because you've been selling to kids, like back at that corner. Just last month, a kid died due to an overdose of cocaine. Poison you sold.
Diaz (Scoffs): So what. Not like I forced anything. They ask for it, and you can't prove a damn thing.
Masked Man: Maybe you're right.
Diaz: Now I know who you are, you're that freak in a costume, you put away Coney and Santiago, beating the s*** out of some of my homies.
Masked Man: I did and… (Standing up) going back to you, when NLPD searched your place, they found nothing that could stick. I almost thought I wouldn’t have much luck either, but I noticed that little crack on your ceiling.
Diaz: [chuckles] Yeah man, been there since I moved here.
Masked Man: What's funny is those cracks look recent. (Pointing out some marks on the floor) And looks like you’ve had a better look.
The masked man then pulls out a hammer from the inside of his trenchcoat.
The Detective: Which is why I found this.
Diaz (Holding his hands up): Whoa, whoa man the hell. Let’s take it easy.
Masked Man: Don't worry, I'm not gonna hurt you.
He then throws the hammer at the ceiling where the crack is, leaving a dent. The hammer drops to the ground between them. Then small baggies of cocaine drop from the ceiling to the ground.
Masked Man: Always changing your hiding spots, which is why the police found nothing the first time they searched your place. One of your guys slipped that you moved your goods somewhere else. Oh, and one last thing. I called the police a few minutes before you arrived, they should be here shortly.
The masked man then walks away to the door, passing Diaz.
Diaz (Angrily says): Why you son of a bitch!
He picks up the hammer and runs toward the masked man. The masked man stops and turns around as Diaz strikes at him, but the masked man takes him out with one jab to the face, causing Diaz to spit out blood and slam to the ground unconscious. The masked man then pulls out a little card that says “CASE SOLVED” and drops it near Diaz’s unconscious body. The man then opens the door and leaves.
Voiceover: Some wonder who I am, well my name is Mac Messer but many call me “THE DETECTIVE”.

Later in a foggy night at a wooded area, a blonde woman wearing a torn shirt and panties, and a heart-shaped necklace, visible lacerations on her wrists, is running in fear, being followed by a figure wearing combat boots holding a Beretta 1301 Tactical shotgun. She then trips on a branch and hits the ground head first. She sees a sprain on her leg and a little cut on her forehead. The figure in combat boots walks up to her revealing to be a man in a black bomber jacket, wearing black body armor and cargo pants, with a neoprene ski mask covering his whole face except his blue eyes, and a black cap.
Woman (Cryingly Begs): Please no! I won’t say anything. Just let me go.
Masked Man: You shouldn't have run.
The masked man has his shotgun trained on her as he walks towards her.
Woman (Yells): Nooooo!
The camera angle moves away from them and a gunshot is fired offscreen.
Later the next morning at the residential townhouse area in New Liberty; in a 3 story gray townhouse with an office door with the writing, LIZ INVESTIGATIONS , printed on the glass, inside the first floor is an office where the blinds keep the room dark, and the only things are a desk, a bookcase, a filing cabinet, a bookshelf, a bulletin board, a fan, a coat rack, a couch, a water dispenser, and a stairway.
Mac; wearing a white office shirt with gray stripes and his sleeves rolled up, and a black tie, holding a coffee mug, walks down the stairway from the second floor, heading to sit at his desk; the only things there are two other chairs across, a lamp, some papers, a picture currently in an obscure view, and a telephone. He then turns on the TV on top of one of his filing cabinets, and watches the news while drinking coffee.
Newscaster: This is Christina Jones, reporting. William Diaz was arrested by NLPD last night after finding nearly $10,000 worth of cocaine in the ceiling of his apartment. Mr. Diaz has been charged with possession with intent to distribute and is currently in Steelgate Penitentiary awaiting hearing. Witnesses saw a man in a gray trenchcoat and fedora leave Mr. Diaz’s apartment. Officials believe that this is the same so-called Detective who has been active for the last 8 months, allegedly responsible for the arrests of suspected serial rapist Jose Santiago and suspected child predator Miles Coney. In other news, the city continues to rebuild following the mysterious Big Bang that…
The focus shifts to Mac looking at a framed picture of him smiling and his arms wrapped around a Caucasian brunette woman with a depressing look.
Mac (Depressingly Says): Liz.
He holds the photo up.
He flashes back to his place, now a crime scene, with Police on the scene, police tape blocking the door, in a noir background. Mac, with bruises on his face, is shown unconscious on the ground waking up.
Officer (Calling to Mac): Detective.
Mac (Confused): Liz, where is she?
Officer (Trying to calm Mac down): Detective.
Mac (Yellingly calls out as he gets up): Liz!
He runs upstairs to the third floor.
Officer (Calls out to Mac): Detective!
Mac runs upstairs to the bedroom, unseen to the audience. Mac looks in shock and then with an anguish grimace.
In the present, outside the New Liberty City 15th Precinct, a African American man wearing a white shirt, a black tie and a brown trench coat walks out of the precinct.
Female Voice (Calls out to him): Detective Tower.
Detective Tower turns around seeing a Caucasian blonde woman with her hair tied in a bun, wearing a black shirt and black trenchcoat walks out of the precinct towards him.
Tower: Can I help you?
Woman: Detective Stacey Harper. Captain Brass, I'm your new partner.
Tower (Introducing himself): Did he now? Detective Victor Tower (reaching out a hand).
They shake hands.
Tower: You look familiar.
Stacey: Oh yeah, I was a beat cop assigned patrol back at Old Liberty District, then transferred to The Theater District, and thanks to Captain Brass bounced here and now got my shield.
Tower: Oh right. There was a case a few years back.
Stacey (Uncomfortably says): Yeah
Tower then heads to a green 2004 Ford Crown Vic across the streets and Stacey follows him. Tower listens in on his communicator.
Stacey: Looks like we have our first case.
Stacey takes the driver side and wheel, much to Tower’s surprise.
Stacey: Mind if I drive?
Tower: Of course.
At an alleyway, the scene of a crime where several police cars are present and police tape at an alleyway to prevent anyone else from crossing. Tower’s car arrives and parks. He and Harper get out of the vehicle, showing the officers their badges, allowing them to cross the tape.
Tower (Asking two officers): You two first responders.
One of the officers is a Caucasian male, slightly heavyweight, with black hair and mustache. The other, Caucasian, younger, slim with brown hair.
Heavyweight Officer: Got a call, guy found a woman dead in a dumpster an hour ago, Haines and I responded and called it in.
They show the detectives the corpse, which is revealed to be the woman from the woods, with a gunshot to her chest.
Tower: Any ID?
Officer Haines (Responds): Based off, missing persons. Wilcox shows them.
Wilcox shows them a piece of paper.
Stacey: Kelly Walker, 24, reported missing for about a month. Priors for loitering and possession. And (To Wilcox) you were the one who filed the missing persons?
Officer Wilcox (Reading the report) : I guess so. Hard to keep track.
Stacey raises an eyebrow.
Tower: Any witnesses?
Haines (Responds): What do you think?
Tower: Haven't seen s*** I'm guessing.
Tower and Stacey take notes of more observations.
Tower: Ligature marks and lacerations.
Stacey: Doesn’t look like she was killed here.
Tower: What makes you think that?
Stacey: No sign of blood anywhere, or drag marks, I'm guessing she was killed somewhere else.
Tower: Definitely sounds like the case.
Officer Wilcox (Sarcastically says): Well that's how most these girls end up, they ask for it.
Stacey raises an eyebrow.
Stacey: Let's not jump to any conclusions just yet.
Wilcox: Just saying, that's what most cases turn to. Seen it a lot.
Stacey (Frustrated): Just because–.
Tower: Thank you, officers. We’ll take it from here.
He and Haines leave.
Stacey: Does she have any family?
Tower (Looking at her information): Yeah, her mother. Also, apparently her known address. [sighs]. I’ll be honest. This is the hardest part of the job.
Later inside an apartment building, Tower and Stacey are seen knocking on a door. An elderly woman wearing glass opens the door.
Tower: Mrs. Walker, I’m Detective (She and Tower show her their badges) .
Mrs. Walker: This is about Kelly?
Moments before outside, Tower and Stacey are inside the car, with Tower discussing with Stacey how to notify a family member.
Tower: Politely ask if we can come inside, and politely if they can sit, and be prepared for any kind of reaction. The first time I had to notify a family member that their loved one was no longer with them, I got a slap to the face. I once had a grieving father who had a heart attack, and I had to give them the news a second time in the hospital.
Back to the present in Mrs. Walker’s apartment,
Stacey: Mrs. Walker, can we sit down.
Mrs. Walker: I’d prefer to stand.
Stacey: Ma’am, I wish I didn’t have to tell you this, but we’ve found your daughter Kelly.
Mrs. Walker: So you found her? Is she…
She struggles to finish her sentence. Stacey unconformably looks to Tower.
Tower: I am so sorry to tell you this Mrs. Walker, but Kelly was murdered.
Mrs. Walker starts to burst into tears.
Back at the car with Tower and Stacey,
Tower: They’ll start with denial, so be prepared to explain to them how you know that this is their child.
Back to the present,
Mrs. Walker: No. No, no no. This can’t be. How do you know it's her?
Stacey: Mrs. Walker, when you file a missing person, you gave us access to her dental records.
Back in the car,
Tower: Be gentle. Allow yourself to show emotion, show empathy. It allows you to better connect with the family.
Stacey: Believe me, I know the feeling all too well.
Back at Mrs. Walker’s apartment, Mrs. Walker is seated on a sofa sobbing in tears, while Tower and Stacey are seated on the couch across.
Mrs. Walker: Kelly… [sobbing] She’s… she’s all I got.
Stacey: Mrs. Walker, I'm so sorry for your loss. I know this is difficult, but we were hoping you could answer some questions. Do you need time, or…?
Mrs. Walker: Yes, anything to catch the bastard that took my baby girl.
Tower: You said in a police report you haven't had any contact with your daughter, is that correct?
Mrs. Walker: Yes, I haven't heard from her in a month. I knew something was up so I went to the Police, but they wouldn't listen.
Tower: What led you to conclude that she was missing?
Mrs. Walker: Because we're close. We always talk to each other every month, I just sense it. Things have been difficult since her father passed. She struggled a lot, trying to move on, falling in the wrong crowd.
Tower: Did she mention any friends? Boyfriend?
Mrs. Walker: No, nothing like that. She was always shy and quiet.
Tower: Mrs. Walker, I’m sorry to ask this, but was Kelly ever involved in any kind of--.
Mrs. Walker (Interrupting Tower’s sentence): No, no, I know what you're thinking. She was not... She wouldn’t do that. Let me tell you something detectives, my daughter had some problems, made some bad choices, but she was getting better. She wouldn’t do anything like that.
Stacey: Okay Mrs. Walker. I understand. Do you know anyone Kelly had problems with? Enemies?
Mrs. Walker: No. Nothing like that.
Stacey: You mentioned you spoke to Kelly about a month ago. What can you tell us about your last conversation?
Mrs. Walker: I already told you people the first time I knew she was missing.
Tower: We understand Mrs. Walker, but even the smallest of details can help us figure out what happened to your daughter.
Mrs. Walker: I’ll tell you what happened. My daughter is gone.
Stacey: Mrs. Walker, we apologize for any disrespect but we just want to find out what happened.
Mrs. Walker: Well you should be out there looking. Like you should have when I first came to you people. You could have done something, but you didn’t believe me. No one believed me! And now my baby is gone!
She continues ranting hysterically, bursting into tears. She begins to settle down after a bit.
Stacey: Mrs. Walker?
Mrs. Walker: Can… Can I see her?
Tower: Once the M.E. is done conducting an autopsy, you can.
Stacey: Mrs. Walker?
Mrs. Walker: Get Out! GET OUT,
The Detectives leave the apartment.
Stacey: Does it—?
Tower: Get easier. No. Not really. [sighs] Some people are just mistrustful with cops these days. Right now, I don’t blame her.
Stacey: Neither do I. Either way we owe it to her that her daughter gets justice one way or another.
Later at Liz Investigations Office, Mac is at his office desk drinking a cup of coffee. He then gets a phone call. Mac picks up the phone.
Mac: Liz Investigations. How can we help?
Later, Mac opens his office door, seeing Mrs. Walker, the only person in the waiting room.
Mac: Can I help you?
Mrs. Walker: Yes.
Mac: Come inside.
Mac holds the door for her as she walks inside his office. Mac then closes the door.
After a few minutes, we switch to Mac and Mrs. Walker seated at Mac’s desk sitting across from one another. Mrs. Walker holding a photo of her daughter in her hands.
Mac: I'm really sorry for your loss Mrs. Walker.
Mrs. Walker: Yes, that's what the Detectives told me.
Mac: And you don’t believe that it's best to let the Police handle this.
Mrs. Walker: Do you have kids Mr. Messer?
Mac: No. (He looks at a picture of his wife with a solemn look on his face) I don’t.
Mrs. Walker: I’m sorry. I went to the Police. I told them everything. I begged them. And they didn’t care. And now my daughter is dead. And they tell me they’ll find who did this. Why should I trust them after—?
She begins to cry. Mac hands her a box of tissues.
Mrs. Walker: Listen, I know I’m asking too much but---.
Mac: It’s okay. I understand. Mrs. Walker, I’ll do what I can to help find justice for your daughter.
He hands her a small business card containing a logo of his firm as well as a phone number.
Mrs. Walker: Thank you Mr. Messer. Thank you.
She exits his office.
Mac gets up his desk, holding two keys in his right palm. He walks to the bookshelf in his office, removing a book and opens a hidden compartment, revealing a hidden keyhole. Mac uses one of his keys, and the bookshelf reveals itself as a secret door opening leading to a hidden stairway below. Mac enters and closes the secret door. He then walks down the stairway.
Voiceover: This is a long story. One that I might save for another time.
At the end of the stairway leads to another door. Mac uses his other key to unlock the door.
Voiceover: I'm a private investigator, I’m not a Detective, at least not one with a badge. Why did I take the case? Like I told Mrs. Walker, I know what it feels like to lose someone you love deeply. To want answers. To a point that you’d be willing to do… anything.
Mac then opens the door and reveals it to lead a hidden room containing newspaper clippings of certain events hanging on the walls, several filing cabinets, stacked filing boxes, bulletin boards, desks, police computers and radios, surveillance equipment, and crime scene equipment.
Mac pulls out an empty file from his drawer. Mac then makes a phone call.
Later, Mac is at a police computer he somehow obtained and searches everything about Kelly Walker, crime scene photos, autopsy report.
Voiceover: Calling in a favor, from what the M.E. 's office just told me is consistent with what Mrs. Walker was told. Cause of death was a single GSW, fired from a big round, like a shotgun.
(Mac zooms in a little closer to the crime scene photos)
Based on the ligature marks on her wrists, she was definitely held captive somewhere. An old friend always told me that parents have that kind of feeling when it comes to their child. Mrs. Walker was definitely right to believe that something happened to her daughter.
(Mac looks at investigation report seeing the case Detective’s names)
Well well. Speaking of old friends, it looks like a good opportunity to catch up with one.
At Joe’s bar, Mac sits by the long bar table waiting for a bartender .
Female Bartender (Says to Mac): Well well well, Mac Messer, what can I get you sugar?
Mac: Usual Josie.
Tower and Stacey enter the bar, approaching Mac.
Mac: If it ain't Detective Victor Tower.
Tower: Ex-Detective Mac Messer.
It first looks seriously silent, but they then laugh and give each other a hug.
Tower: How's it going man?
Mac: I'm getting by. I see you have a new partner.
Tower: I do, Harper this is Mac he was my partner back in the day.
Stacey Harper (Introducing herself): Detective Stacey Harper.
Mac (Greeting Stacey): Mac Messer.
(They shake hands)
Tower (Speaking to Mac): So why'd you call? I'm guessing it wasn't just to get a drink.
Josie shows up with a glass of whiskey for Mac.
Mac: The murder of Kelly Walker.
He drinks from his glass.
Tower: Mrs. Walker came to you didn’t she.
Mac: I can't say I blame her. She wants justice for her daughter.
Tower: And I’m also guessing you talked to Dr. Rodgers. Ain't this a bit above your pay grade?
Mac: You know me Tower.
Tower: Yeah, I do.
Stacey: You're a private investigator?
Mac: I am, and I hear you're working this case as well.
Tower: And what do you want from us?
Mac: Well, I want to look at the crime scene. And since I don't have a badge anymore, I can’t really do that without ruffling some feathers.
Tower: Since when did you ever care about that?
Mac: But I’m not interested in ruffling feathers between us. So, I thought to give you the courtesy and if we could go in and do this together. Like old times.
Tower: Well, that’s rare for you. I would say no, but I think I can make an exception.
Mac has a satisfied look on his face as he finishes his drink.
Back at the crime scene, Tower, Stacey, and Mac cross the tape.
Stacey: The body was found in the…
Mac (Finishing Stacey’s sentence): Dumpster.
Stacey: Yes and based on no blood trail…
Mac (Finishing Stacey’s sentence again): She was most likely killed somewhere else.
Stacey has a slightly annoyed look on her face.
Tower: What we already guessed, Kelly was killed with a single gunshot to the chest.
Stacey: Based on the GSW I'm guessing a rifle or a shotgun.
Tower: What I heard witnesses said---
Mac (Finishing Tower’s sentence): I ain't seen s***.
Tower lightly chuckles.
Mac: Some things never change, nothing here to help.
Tower: Guess we hit a dead end. Sorry about this Mac.
Mac: Maybe. There’s only one lead we do have. You want a chance at another shot?
Back at Liz Investigations, Mrs. Walker is in the waiting room in the entrance of the office. Mac opens the office door letting her in.
Mac: Hello Mrs. Walker. Please come in.
Mrs. Walker: Thank you.
She enters his office.
Mrs. Walker: You said you had some updates you wanted to share.
She then sees Tower and Harper.
Mrs. Walker: What is this? What are they…?
Mac: Actually, I was wondering if we could ask you some questions?
Mrs. Walker: Why are they here? You better have a damn good–.
Mac (Interrupting her): Mrs. Walker I apologize for this, really I do. But I wanted to personally let you know that you can trust them.
Mrs. Walker turns to Tower and Stacey.
Tower: Mrs. Walker, we are truly sorry for your loss. You don’t trust us and you have every right to feel that way. You went to us for help and we turned a blind eye.
Stacey: We can’t speak for what happened then. All we can do now is help you find justice for Kelly.
Mrs. Walker turns to Mac.
Mac: You can trust them. [sighs] Mrs. Walker I know this is difficult but you are the last person known to have any contact with Kelly. So if you really want answers for what happened to your daughter you're going to have to be more forthcoming. We're not here to judge you or your daughter.
Mrs. Walker: And this will help you all find out what happened to my baby girl.
Stacey: We promise.
Mac and Tower both slightly turn their heads to her for a moment.
Mac: Even the smallest of details can be vital in an investigation.
The room is silent for a minute. Mrs. Walker nods.
Stacey: What can you tell us about your last conversation with Kelly? You mentioned that she was getting better.
Mrs. Walker: [Sighs] Yes. She was… She was happy, excited about landing on her feet. I hadn’t seen her like that in ages, and now I’m never going to see her like that again. [sniff]
Mac hands Mrs. Walker a box of tissues.
Mrs. Walker: Thank you. She was so happy about this new job she got?
Stacey: Job?
Mrs. Walker: Yeah, she mentioned a good pay, a good start.
Mac, Tower, and Stacey look at each other for a moment.
Tower: Mrs. Walker, we have no kind of employment history on Kelly. Can you tell us more about this new job?
Mrs. Walker: She told me she found one of those ads on the telephone pole. She showed me a tab once, had this number and a website. Told me she was starting the next day after we spoke. Then… Do… Do you think this has something to do with--?
Mac: Right now we are not ruling anything out. Mrs. Walker, this job Kelly applied for, you wouldn’t happen to still have the information would you?
Mrs. Walker: Yes. Actually I kept it with me.
She shows them a tab containing a phone number and a website address.
Tower: Can we hold on to this?
Mrs. Walker: Sure. Do… Do you think this will help?
Stacey: There’s a good chance--.
Mac: Thank you for your time Mrs. Walker, we’ll let you know if anything else comes up.
Mrs. Walker exits the office.
Tower: Okay Mac, we’ll let you know what we can find on our end.
Mac: And I’ll do the same. Thank you Vic.
Tower and Stacey exit his office.
Mac: Detective Harper.
Stacey turns to Mac.
Mac: Word of advice. Try to avoid making a promise you can’t keep.
Stacey doesn’t respond, and exits the building following her partner.
The scene switches to a road in a wooded area. A Hispanic man, wearing a black leather jacket with white sleeves smoking a cigarette, stands at the side of the road, as if he was waiting for someone. A black limousine appears and stops where the man is. The back window opens showing an older Caucasian man wearing glasses and a black suit as a passenger.
Old Man in Suit: Mr. Santos, I hear about the body of the girl found in a dumpster.
Santos: Listen MR. NASH, you should have had that asshole in the mask take care of it, he's the one who put a bullet in her.
Mr. Nash: That may be true but you and your friends were left in charge before our GUARDSMAN showed up, and he arrived just in time before Ms. Walker could escape.
Santos: Listen man I had no idea how that bitch escaped. I—.
Mr. Nash: Your carelessness was a complete risk to us and our associates' operations. Fortunately, we had friends dispose of any evidence and The Guardsman is cleaning up his own messes on his end. If you screw up again, you'll have to deal with him personally Mr. Santos.
Santos: Listen I understand, I have this under control.
Mr. Nash: I hope for your sake that is true.
The window then goes back up and the limousine makes a u-turn and takes off.
In the secret Basement, Mac is seen looking up the website address listed in the job ad. He gets an error page.
Voiceover: Website doesn’t exist. Just like I thought. And the phone number listed is “no longer in service”.
Mac gets a text message from Tower.
Voiceover: Meaning this “job” Kelly applied for didn’t exist either. Which can mean a number of possibilities. None of them good. While this may seem like another dead end, I know someone who can help in these kinds of events.
The scene switches to inside an apartment building, Mac knocks on a door.
Mac: Malcolm it's Mac.
Mac then hears from the other side of the door, knocks twisting, and the door opens showing a young Caucasian man with dark brown hair, shirtless and no shoes.
Mac: Malcolm.
Malcolm (Surprised): Oh. Hey Mac.
He exits and closes the door.
Voiceover: Sometimes when there's a dead end, I go to Malcolm. Caught him for theft and trespassing back in the day. The kid has talent. He also lived in the streets long enough to know what’s going on. I got him to be my informant as well as someone when in need for a special request.
Malcolm: What can I do for you this time, Mac?
Mac: I need another favor.
Mac hands him a piece of paper containing the website address and phone number listed in the fake job advertisement.
Malcolm: This for a case?
Mac doesn’t respond, only looking at him with a straight face.
Malcolm: I’ll take that as a yes. I’ll take a look, do my magic, tell you what I find.
Mac: One more thing. What have you heard about a woman who was found murdered at Midland Alley this morning?
Malcolm: Okay, well that’s awful. But you're going to have to go on more than that. And I thought you weren’t a cop anymore?
Mac: She was found dead in a dumpster. Thrown out like she was trash. People don’t talk to the cops. But word comes around. You at least know something.
Malcolm: Okay. I heard something from a guy who knows a guy who knows this guy named Miguel.
Mac: Okay. What can you tell me about this Miguel?
Malcolm: He and some guys usually smoke or sell some joints by the St. Broad Road Church. A couple of assholes from what I heard. From what I heard, he said something about seeing a dead girl in a dumpster. Cops questioned him and he told them he ain't seen s***. You know the usual.
Mac: That makes sense. Thanks Malcolm. By the way you and Ashley get back together?
Malcolm: Uh. No.
Woman’s voice (calling): Malcolm.
Malcolm opens his door and closes it.
Voiceover: Kids these days.
Mac leaves.
Voiceover: Well if this Miguel Malcolm mentioned knows something but doesn't give a s***, no point at going to him as Mac Messer.
At the alley near St. Broad Road Church, where several men are smoking cigarettes, at least one of them wearing a cap, a white t-shirt with red sleeves drops a smoke.
Man in cap: See ya later homies.
He walks away from the group.
One of the other men: See ya.
Miguel walks into an alleyway, dark and shadowy. Miguel hears something from behind, he turns around startled, pulling out a pocket knife from his pocket. He sees nothing. He is suddenly grabbed from behind him in the shadows and pinned to the wall by the Detective.
Miguel (Surprised): What the–? Who the hell are you man?
The Detective: Guess Mr. Green.
Miguel: What the hell do you want?
The Detective: Last night you witnessed a man dump a dead woman in a dumpster.
Miguel: I told the cops I ain't see s***.
Miguel reaches for something in his pocket with his right hand. The Detective then covers his mouth and grabs his right wrist before he can grab anything, a twist from his wrist can be heard and Miguel whose mouth is covered screams in agony. The Detective then takes his hand out.
(Groaning) Miguel: S*** you crazy man.
The Detective: I recognize you from last week, you were in business with William Diaz, before he got arrested last night.
Miguel: S***. You're that freak dressed like a Detective, you took out Diaz.
The Detective: Now I won't turn you over or break your other wrist, unless you tell me what you saw you got that. Understand?
Miguel nods his head.
Miguel: Okay.
(Flashing back)
I left the liquor store and walked across the street into an alley, then I saw this car park at the alley across.
The Detective: What kind of car? Make, model, and year?
Miguel: It was a camry. Toyota camry. Black. 2010 model I think.
The Detective: Anything else you might want to add?
Miguel: Yeah wheels were dirty, like he was driving in dirt or that kind of s***. I saw this dude get out of the driver seat and headed to his trunk.
The Detective: What did this guy look like? White? Black? Height? Build? What was he wearing? Any details?
Miguel: Dark skinned. Black or Latino I think. Bald. Medium height. Light built. Jeans, black leather jacket with white sleeves.
The Detective: Okay what did he do next?
Miguel: He popped open the trunk, and he was carrying this dead chick, I saw him carry her into the alley and dump her. Then he got back in his car and left.
The Detective: Got a license plate number?
Miguel: He was fast but I saw seven digits. Started with 93K0 and ended with T. That helpful?
The Detective: Yeah.
He releases Miguel. Miguel looks up and sees The Detective is gone.
Back at Liz Investigations, inside the hidden room, Mac is sitting at his desk with every detail Miguel gave him written and searching up the license plate number on the Police computer. Mac gets several options, and at least several Toyota Camrys. One is blue, one is yellow, one is red, one is pink, one is black. Mac notices something about the black Camry.
Voiceover: This one was reported stolen a few days ago.
Mac searches its GPS signal. He gets a location. Mac then hears a buzz. Mac gets up, opens his secret door and heads up. As the secret door closes, Mac opens his office door. He sees both Tower and Stacey.
Mac (Greeting them both): Vic. Detective Harper.
He lets them inside the office.
Tower: We have a lead you might want to hear.
Mac: Really?
Stacey: We got information from a witness.
Tower: Guy had his wrist broken, but was more than happy to tell everything he saw.
Mac has his arms crossed.
Mac: What did you find out?
Tower: Think we may have found the vehicle our perp was using to dump our vic.
Mac: Could have just called.
Tower: We could have, but since you're working the case as well, I thought it would be better to let you know and give you a ride to the scene. Full transparency.
Mac is secretly relieved.
Mac: Of course. Just like old times.
Mac puts on a coat and prepares to leave the office with them.
Tower: Mac.
Mac turns his attention to Tower.
Tower: By the book this time.
Mac: Of course.
They all leave the office.
At an alleyway, Mac, Tower, and Stacey and several officers find a parked Black Toyota Camry.
Tower: Haines, Wilcox, you two secure the perimeter.
Wilcox: Got it.
Stacey: Whoever owned this abandoned it.
Mac (Holding a flashlight): This has to be it, there's mud at the bottom.
Stacey pulls out a little zip lock bag and a Q-tip swapping a sample of the dirt.
Tower: This car was reported stolen.
Mac: The door’s unlocked.
Mac pulls out a latex glove from his pocket, opening the driver side.
Mac: Looks like whoever drove this was in a hurry. (Looking at some dirt on the ground).
Stacey: Look. (Showing him a drip of blood on the ground)
Mac: Good eye Detective.
At the woods, Santos gets a phone call.
Person on the other line: You should have mentioned where the car was, the cops found it.
Santos: Don't blame this s*** on me. You killed her, you should have done it.
Person on the other line: Maybe you're right, but you're lucky I'm gonna help, since it's both our asses on the line.
The call ends.
Santos (mutters nervously): S***.
Later in the evening at the Precinct, Tower and Stacey walk to the crime lab.
Stacey: Hey, Tower I was meaning to ask something?
Tower turns to her.
Stacey: What is it with your former partner? I heard some stories. He lashed out at the captain, punched some asshole’s tooth out?
Tower: A lot more complicated than that.
Stacey: Also heard some things about why he left the force.
Tower: His wife, Elizabeth. [Sighs] She… She was great. For him. They were great for each other. She really brought out the best in him.
Stacey: Sounds like you knew her well.
Tower: Yeah. Me and my wife back then would have drinks, dinners together. We were all like one happy family. Then… well it’s a long story. By the time we arrived, we were too late.
Stacey: Elizabeth, Liz Investigations, so he left the force and started his own office.
Tower: There’s more to it than that, but yes. Things changed after that. I lost a friend, another was struggling, and my marriage didn’t last too long after.
They head to the entrance of the crime lab and see several technicians and officers inside the lab trying to put out a fire, where fire sprinklers soaking the lab.
Tower (Mutters): S***.
Female Technician (Apologizing): Sorry Tower.
Tower: Michelle, what happened?
Female Technician/Michelle: While I was analyzing those samples, a fire broke out. I thought. I thought I had it all covered.
Stacey: S***.
Wilcox: You what they say. S*** happens.
Wilcox then walks away leaving Stacey suspicious.
At Liz Investigations Office in the secret room, Mac looks at a picture of the shoe print found at the scene. Mac gets a text from Tower about the fire.
Voiceover: While highly unlikely, I'm not surprised something like that would happen. But from what CSU told us back at the scene where the car was dumped, it appears the suspect has a shoe size of about 10.5. So not an entire dead end.
Mac then checks his phone receiving an update from Malcolm.
Voiceover: Looks like Malcolm was able to get something from the fake website. He was able to pinpoint it somewhere in the North East Neighborhood. Meanwhile I’ve been looking into possible suspects, assholes known for pulling this kind of s***. The list is long. Unfortunately, these kinds of things happen more than you would expect. I’d been slightly able to narrow it down to those currently still in the streets. Thanks to Malcolm I’ve been able to narrow it down to three known offenders operating in the North East Neighborhood. And thanks to Mr. Green’s description, one fits the bill. Antonio Santos. Fits the description, did a couple of stints in Steelgate for sexual assault, and was suspected of human trafficking. Kelly was more than just a missing person, she really was in trouble. Another perp who was able to go free due to lack of evidence and based on recent events, it’s highly likely he must have some kind of connection in the force.
Mac then looks more into Santos, including his history, address, and vehicle information.
Voiceover: It looks like Mr. Santos has been spending a lot of time in the North East Forest Park. Secluded space. Now why was Kelly Walker killed? Something went down.
Unseen to the audience, Mac looks into more information on Santos’ record.
Voiceover: Interesting. It's time to pay Mr. Santos a visit.
Back at the Precinct, Tower and Stacey are at their desks processing what occurred.
Tower: The fire’s contained. Cleanup will take time. According to Michelle, looks like the fire was caused by some wiring with the electric fan.
Meanwhile, Officer Wilcox passes by, Stacey takes notice.
Stacey: Who was first at the scene?
Tower: Michelle told me Officer Wilcox was in the lab when the fire started. Why?
Stacey: You think it’s a coincidence that the officer who filed Kelly missing, as well as first responder to her murder, happens to be the first one to be at the lab when the fire occurred?
Tower: Your saying Wilcox is dirty?
Stacey: What do you think?
Tower: It’s a serious accusation. And you could ruffle a lot of feathers. But…
Stacey: But?
Tower: I think you may be onto something.
Stacey lets out a small smile.
The scene switches to a black Ferrari California parked to the side of the road in front of an apartment building. Parking at the side of the road, the driver gets out revealing to be Santos. Santos pulls his keys out of his pocket and enters the apartment complex, he then opens the door to an apartment and enters. He closes and locks his door.
Voice: Nice car.
A spooked Santos turns around seeing The Detective on his recliner.
Santos (Surprised): Who in the f*** are you? How’d you get in?
The Detective looks at the surroundings.
The Detective: Nice car, nice TV, nice recliner. But how does a man like you get this much money?
Santos: Business.
Santos reaches for a gun in his back pocket. He draws out his gun from his pocket, but The Detective pulls out a black tactical baton from his right sleeve, throwing it at Santos’ gun like a dart, hitting Santo’s hand, causing him to shoot at the wall and cause the gun to fall off his hand.
Santos (Groaning): S***.
The Detective: Speaking about business. Kelly Walker.
Santos: Who?
The Detective: A woman who was murdered last night and found in a dumpster this morning.
Santos: Okay what this s*** have to do with me?
The Detective: I know you were keeping her for business, human trafficking and then something happened and she was killed and you disposed of her body.
Santos: S***, you're delusional, I ain't know s***. So you can go f*** yourself.
The Detective gets up. Santos backs away from him as he picks up The Detective’s baton. He swings it at him, but The Detective grabs his arm headbutts him, grabs the baton and then hits Santos’ right leg with it. A bone crack from Santos’ leg can be heard. Santos screams in agony, as he falls to the ground.
The Detective: I know about the black Sedan in the alley, it's how I found you.
Santos (Groaning): S***! You f***ing crazy.
The Detective: Where do you keep the girls?
Santos (In agony): I don't know what you're talking about.
The Detective steps on his broken leg.
The Detective: I know you keep them somewhere in the forest you just drove out of.
Santos (Groaning): S***! If I tell you, I'm dead.
The Detective: I can call the cops, they'll protect you.
Santos (Frightfully): S*** you can't trust them.
The Detective: I know some that you can trust, but you're gonna answer for Kelly Walker’s death.
Santos: I didn't kill her.
The Detective: I believe you. But you can tell me about the person who did kill her, details, features and the location in the forest.
Santos: Don't know his name, he wears a mask. We call him the Guardsman. I can’t tell you more than that.
The Detective: You certain?
Santos: Pretty sure he’s a pig. Not sure which one. All I can say is he's the one who killed the girl. Bitch somehow managed to escape and things went to s***. Wasn’t supposed to happen.
The Detective: What do you mean?
Santos: He wasn’t supposed to f***ing kill her.
The Detective: And the location?
Santos: Come on.
The Detective steps deeper on his leg.
Santos (In agony): Alright. Alright, I keep a map. Get lost sometimes. It’s where the girls are, it's a secret hatch. An old bootleg hideaway.
The Detective: Thanks.
He hits him in the head with his baton, knocking him unconscious, he then takes his phone and car keys, and leaves the house.
Meanwhile outside the Precinct, Wilcox, in civilian clothing, exits the Precinct and heads to his car.
Voice: Going somewhere.
Wilcox turns around seeing both Tower and Stacey approaching him.
Wilcox: I’m off-duty. Wife expects me home. Don’t want to keep her waiting.
Stacey: You're sure about that?
Wilcox: Excuse me?
Tower: Your phone activity suggests a different story.
Stacey: Along with your finances.
Wilcox: You–you looked at that? Since when the hell did you two turn into the frickin Rat Squad?
Stacey: You know what they say once is an accident, two is a coincidence, three is a pattern.
Wilcox: The hell you mean?
Stacey: Kelly Walker.
Wilcox: Dumpster girl. What about her?
Tower: Well everything about this case: her disappearance, her murder, the fire in the lab that conveniently destroyed all evidence of identifying her killer. They all have something in common.
Stacey: You.
Wilcox: [Laughs] Now you two are way off base.
Stacey: Are we?
Wilcox: Listen just because I filed a report doesn’t mean s***. You know how many bitches I get on my–?
Stacey: I’d watch your mouth if I were–.
Wilcox pushes Stacey.
Tower: Hey!
Tower pushes Wilcox, pinning him to his car.
Wilcox: Get off.
Tower lets go.
Wilcox: Whatever you think, I didn’t kill that girl or had anything to do with her going missing.
Tower: Maybe. But what about the fire in the lab?
Wilcox doesn’t respond.
Stacey: And before you say anything. Just remember that we looked at your financials, especially after 50K ended up in your account not too long after you left the lab.
Tower: I’m also certain you’d like to review the records of whose keycard was last entered in the lab. So I recommend you choose your next words wisely.
Wilcox begins to sweat.
Wilcox: [Sighs] Listen you have to understand I needed the money.
Stacey: You can save your sob story to IA. You want to help yourself, you can start by telling us who put you up to this.
At the roadway in the North East Forest Park roadway, The Detective driving Santos’ Ferrari looks at his surroundings.
Voiceover: This car is not my type, but it will do for now. Now I see it. (He then stops the car)
The Detective gets out of the car and sees the open spot with tire tracks, he hides in the forest and follows the trail.
Voiceover: In a situation like this, expect. Like those cameras for instance. (Noticing cameras in the trail)
(The Detective sees where the trail ends a huge spot surrounded by trees)
A hatch is somewhere here covered by all the leaves here.
What would make this spot stand out is one that looks misplaced, one that looks like it's been covered more than usual. (Noticing one spot with more leaves covering it than the others)
Mac picks up a little pebble, he aims at that spot and throws it, causing the pebble to bounce to the spot. Mac hides in the bushes. Then the spot rises, and a wooden door is revealed to be what's covered by the leaves. It opens. The Guardsman, holding a Beretta 1301 tactical shotgun with a flashlight, appears from the bottom, climbing up. He searches around. As The Detective begins to move, he finds a shell casing.
Voiceover: A Beretta 1301 tactical shotgun, the kind of weapon that can cause a wound like the one that killed Kelly Walker. And also law enforcement issued. Which gives me more of a clue who the killer is.
The Detective moves to another spot, as The Guardsman circles around. As The Detective moves to another spot, The Guardsman hearing something turns around startled and fires a shot. The Guardsman walks toward where The Detective was, he looks and sees nothing. The Detective appears behind The Guardsman, The Guardsman turns around, he points his shotgun at The Detective but before he can, The Detective grabs it and throws it to the side. The Guardsman then reaches a gun from his holster, but The Detective grabs him and throws him to the side. The Guardsman reaches his shotgun and points it at The Detective, but he kicks it away from him, and The Guardsman ends up firing at a tree. The Guardsman crawls away and gets up but sees The Detective has disappeared. The Guardsman, nervous, has his grip heavy shotgun and flashlight on.
The Guardsman (Nervously yells): Where the f*** are you! Come out and show yourself.
He walks around back to where the door is. The Guardsman turns around to the secret hatch. Suddenly, The Detective grabs the barrel of the gun, and pulls it down along with The Guardsman, causing The Guardsman to fall down to the ground. The Detective throws the shotgun to the side. The Guardsman gets up where a locked door is behind him. The Detective kicks The Guardsman hard in the stomach causing him to hit the door, opening it revealing several wire fence cages, all holding one woman, with one empty. The Detective sees all women in fear and confusion.
Later at Santos’ apartment, Tower and Stacey are inside looking around.
Tower: Santos is gone and so is his car, he drives a black Ferrari California.
Stacey: That’s pretty much both our salaries combined. Always wanted to drive one of those.
She searches his drawers and finds several photos.
Tower: What is it?
Stacey: You see this. (Showing him the photos, that of the woods, one of which is the spot)
Tower (Looking at the roadway): Place looks familiar.
Stacey: North East Forest Park.
Tower: I think I know what you're thinking, partner.
Back at the fight at hand,
The Detective (Grunting): Give it up... officer.
The Guardsman (Surprised): So you know who I am.
The Detective: Yeah I do, Officer Haines.
The Guardsman (With a surprised look in his eyes): S*** how did you–?
The Detective (Interrupting him and explaining): Figure it out, well I knew the killer of Kelly Walker had to do with something bigger and after finding out Santos’ involvement, I knew there was a pattern and the fire in the crime lab, I knew it wasn't just a coincidence, and when I saw your shot, I knew deep down you were a cop. At first, I would have thought your partner looked good for all of this, but he had an alibi, gambling, hookers, and fancy hotel rooms. Something he didn’t want the Mrs. to find out. But what made me figure it out was you used to do a beat in these areas, and you were also Santos’ arresting officer.
The Guardsman removes his cap and mask, revealing to be Officer Haines.
Haines: Well you got me.
He gets up with his hands up, walking towards The Detective slowly.
Haines: Yeah. (Stopping as he suddenly reaches for the shelf next to him and The Detective, pushing it to The Detective’s direction)
Haines runs to a desk grabbing a baton and an electric stick. The Detective lifts the shelf on him as hard as he can and quickly drags himself out before it can drop again, but before he can get up, Haines stuns him with his electric stick, he then hits The Detective three times in the back with his baton, causing The Detective to fall to the ground wounded. Haines hits him one more time with his baton. The Detective gets on his knees and Haines prepares to hit him again, but The Detective pulls out both of his batons from both of his sleeves and uses them to block the strike. Haines then strikes his electric stick at The Detective but he catches it with his hand and grabs it away from him, throwing it to the side. They then duel. Haines backs away to the door as they duel. They duel to the stairs, where Haines takes a glimpse behind him giving The Detective the advantage to punch him to the ground and drop his baton, Haines quickly grabs his baton and runs back outside. The Detective runs outside and follows him, but Haines who is right behind him pointing a taser at him tases him in the back, causing him to fall on his knees. Haines runs to him and once again hits him in the back with a baton, twice, causing The Detective to fall to the ground with blood coming coughing from his mouth. Haines then pulls out a gun from his holster, but The Detective quickly gets up and tackles him to the ground, before he can shoot him. The Detective then punches him in the face repeatedly, causing Haines to cough out blood. The Detective stops and backs away exhausted, Haines wounded and equally exhausted gets up, The Detective then picks up his baton, and Haines falls on his knees.
The Detective: I know Santos isn't the brains behind this. He wouldn't have been the one to get rid of the body, and you sound just as desperate to resort to drastic and reckless efforts to cover it up. Someone else is calling the shots. You might as well tell me.
Haines: Even if I did tell you, you won't find out. These guys. I don't know their names, and I'm glad I don't. (He coughs out more blood)
The Detective: You're just another dirty cop who does a special night shift.
Haines (Groaning): You can say it like that…Egh...Egh...I heard about you. Who in f*** do you think you are? Some wannabe 1950s Detective, trying to be a hero?
The Detective: No. Not a hero.
Haines: I’m just trying to make a living, you know. Make ends meet.
He pulls out a gun from his foot holster, but before he can fire a shot The Detective hits him in the face with his baton, causing him to spit out more blood and instantly collapse to the ground. The Detective then hears sirens wailing.
Later, a green 2004 Ford Crown Vic with sirens flashing arrives at the scene. Tower at the driver side and Stacey on the other side get out of the car slowly with guns pointed, they see the door.
Stacey: You see that.
They head toward the hatch and stop, they look at each other nodding at each other to head down. They head to the holding area.
Tower (Mutters surprised looking at the captive girls): S***.
They then find a beaten Haines sitting on the ground, with handcuffs behind his back, attached to the empty cage behind him.
Stacey: Well well well this is interesting. (Noticing a small card next to Haines and picks it up) ,
Stacey (Reading it): “CASE SOLVED”.
She turns it around seeing writing saying “Your Killer”.
Tower (Speaking in his communicator): I need backup, crime scene, and a bus. Hell of a mess.
Unknown to the two, The Detective walks away in the woods, heads back to Santos’ Ferrari and drives off.
Later, the next morning, more officers and ambulances are on the scene, with medics checking out all of the captives, and a police officer escorting a handcuffed Haines to the back of a cruiser. Mac then appears at the scene and approaches Tower and Stacey .
Mac: I see you caught Kelly Walker’s killer, another dirty cop.
Tower: Yeah son of a bitch been running this for his “night job” and bribed his partner to cover up evidence. IA is gonna have a field day on this one. What I heard, Wilcox flipped on Haines, but that’s not all.
Stacey: Looks like that vigilante I’ve been hearing about was here too. That so-called Detective. (Showing Mac the calling card)
Mac: An interesting person.
Stacey: Yeah it's a coincidence he was on the case too.
Mac: It's a real mystery.
Tower notices a look on Mac’s face. Mac notices something shining, he walks over to the direction.
Tower: Mac?
Mac stops and looks at the ground.
Tower: Hey Mac, you good?
Mac: Yes, I’m good Vic. There’s just one more thing we need to take care of.
At Mrs. Walker’s residence, Mac, with Tower and Stacey behind him, knocks on the door. Mrs. Walker opens her door.
Mac: Mrs. Walker.
Mrs. Walker: Mr. Messer. Detectives.
Mac lets Stacey take the queue.
Stacey: Mrs. Walker, we just wanted to inform you before it hit the news that we got him. Your daughter’s killer is in custody.
Mrs. Walker: [Sighs] I should be feeling relieved, but he’s alive, she’s not.
Tower: We know this doesn’t make up for what happened before, but we hope this can give you some closure.
Mrs. Walker: Thank you for letting me know. [Sniffles] But, it doesn’t change the fact that she’s still–.
Mac: No it doesn’t. [Sighs] I won’t lie, it doesn’t get easier. All you can do now is try and find a way to move forward.
Tower looks at Mac in response.
Mac: We also wanted to give you this. We found this and had it released from evidence. (Showing her a metal bracelet, with the name “Kelly” engraved on it).
She gasps in surprise.
Mrs. Walker (Sobbing): It’s hers, it's my baby girl’s, her father gave it to her on her 4th birthday, she never let go of it. Thank you so much.
She hugs Mac.
Mac: Just doing my job. We all did.
Mrs. Walker: Thank you so much, all of you.
Later in the secret room, Mac watches the news.
Christina Jones: This is Christina Jones reporting live. Officer Eddie Haines of The New Liberty City Police Department was arrested this morning for the murder of 24 year-old Kelly Walker, who was now reported to have been kidnapped and held prisoner, along with many other young women who went missing in the last few months. Officials confirm that all thanks go to the NLPD, though some speculation say that the so-called vigilante “Detective” was responsible for this discovery, and Officer Haines confirmed he was working with suspected human trafficker Antonio Santos. Mr. Santos currently remains at large.
Voiceover: This case, well let's see, sure there is a criminal still at large, but that's the least I’m thinking about. A woman was murdered and I was able to find some closure by finding her killer.
The scene then switches in Steelgate Prison, to Haines with a black eye, and some bruises and bandages in his face from his fight with The Detective, now wearing a short sleeved orange prison jumpsuit, holding with both of his hands two towels, one blanket, two sheets, and two washcloths being escorted by two guards to a cell.
Voiceover: And many more lives were saved. So overall it was a good night.
The scene switches to Mac in some kind of garage, where Santos’ Ferrari is parked. Mac leaves the garage as two men enter, handing one of them the keys.
Voiceover: But what bothers me is that this case only offers more questions than it does answers. What other players are involved pulling these strings? And just how big does it go?
The scene then switches to Mac looking at a file folder containing everything about the case he investigated writing on the tab,
Walker, Kelly
he closes the file and walks to three filing cabinets, alphabetically labeled. He opens the drawer saying Q-Z containing files of cases he previously solved and places the file inside, he then closes the drawer and heads back to his desk.
Mac is sitting at his desk and plays a recording from a video camera.
Liz (Noticing Mac recording her): What are you doing Mac?
Mac: Just looking at you?
The camera zooms closer to you.
Liz: Come here.
Mac takes his shoes off and approaches Liz. His camera records them passionately kissing.
Mac then hears a ringing.
Voiceover: But for now, there are other cases waiting for me.
Mac then opens the door and closes it.
End Credits
At an unknown location, in an office like location, a man wearing jeans, and a white tank top, sitting on a chair with a bag on his head. A man removes the bag, revealing the man in the chair to be Santos.
Santos (Confused): What the hell?
Mr. Nash (Standing on the left side of a desk): Hello Mr. Santos.
Santos then turns to who's sitting at the desk, next to where Nash is.
To the viewers, his face cannot be seen by the audience, a caucasian man wearing a white shirt with a brown tie, a brown waistcoat, and a brown suit jacket. He shows his right hand, revealing his index finger wearing a gold king crown hip hop ring, and then shows his left hand showing his other index finger wearing the exact same ring.
Santos (Nervous): You're him.
The King (In a calm tone): I am Mr. Santos. THE KING himself. Though I do find that name is a bit over exaggerated.
Mr. Nash: We warned you Mr. Santos what would happen.
The King (Calmly ordering his two bodyguards): Leave us.
The two men leave and close the door.
The King (Explaining): Now Mr. Santos, you're now a fugitive from the law. It's all over the news, there’s nothing else we can do. Your operation we helped benefit for our associates is now compromised, and our mutual friend Officer Haines was arrested along with his partner. Others involved in the operation are expected to join them soon, but I trust that none of them will be a major risk.
Mr. Nash: $100,000 in hazard pay in an offshore account can buy silence.
Santos (Nervous): Yeah listen man I---
The King (Interrupting him): I know. This so-called Detective. (Noticing his broken leg) I see you had a bad fall.
Santos: Yeah, that freak, whatever he's called did that.
The King (Speaking to Nash): Mr. Nash, call our friends in the department, tell them to bring us everything they have on this Detective and give us the room.
Mr. Nash then leaves the office and closes the door. Santos then notices a gun on the desk, between him and The King.
The King: Now I understand that things took an unexpected turn.
Santos: [sighs] So are we good?
The King gets up and walks towards Santos. Santos' eyes focus shift from The King and the gun on the table.
The King: Normally we would stick with the usual arrangements. However, my partners would not see it that way, and Mr. Nash did warn you about the consequences. So unfortunately–.
Santos then reaches his hand for the gun, but before he could fire a shot The King then suddenly punches Santos in the face and knee strikes his chin, causing Santos to spit blood and two of his teeth to fall out while he falls painfully to the ground, dropping the gun away from him. Santos tries to drag himself away and tries reaching for the gun. The King walks up to an injured Santos and steps on his hand. Santos screams in agony. The King then grabs him by the back of his collar and knee strikes his chin again and then punches the back of his head causing Santos to spit more blood and two more teeth as his face slams hard to the ground.
Santos (Beggingly cries): Please stop man.
He tries to drag himself away, but The King steps on his broken leg, pressing down, causing Santos to scream in agony. The King presses hard on his broken leg and steps on it again.
Santos (Beggingly cries out): Please no more please.
The King rolls him over and kicks him in the stomach and chest repeatedly.
The King (Remorseful tone): I’m sorry it had to lead to this. I really am, but an example has to be made. At least your death will have a purpose.
He makes a fist. Santos tries to move but The King steps on his chest hard. Now half beaten and barely breathing, The King punches him hard in the face with his bare fists.
Outside of the office, the two guards are standing still and unfazed as they hear rapid punching blows landing and it continues. A gunshot is then heard. The King then opens the door and the guards see blood all over the door and The King with his hands covered in blood.
The King (Calmly ordering his men): Have the cleaning crew have this mess cleaned up.
One of the bodyguards: Yes sir.
The King then walks away from his office as the guards enter the office. The scene ends as it zooms close to The King’s bloody right-hand ring.
