Work Text:

“Why the fuck did Sae ask to go to a bar?” Isagi blankly stared at Shidou dancing as Sae stood there; looking disapprovingly yet softly at him.

Rin huffed in response, downing a shot and putting it down gently. “Fuck am I supposed to know. I’m not my shitty brother.” Rin sent a side-long glance to Isagi who glared back in response.

“Didn’t say you were. You kinda made me fake date you, kinda deserve to know why I’m at a bar.” Isagi sighed, leaning his face onto the bar table.

Rin rolled his eyes, his irritation extremely obvious. “I know. I don’t have all the answers in the world.”

“No need to be a bitch.” Isagi deadpanned, turning his gaze back to the couple. “This is also boring as shit. Why did you even want to fake date me?”

Rin glanced at Isagi, his expression unreadable for a moment before he let out a sigh. "Look, Isagi, I didn't have much of a choice. Sae was on my case about finding someone, and you were there. I figured it was better than dealing with their constant nagging."

“Cheers. I Need to know the fact that I'm merely convenient.” Isagi feigned a painful expression.

Rin raised an eyebrow, catching onto Isagi's sarcasm. "Oh, don't be so dramatic.” Rin swirled his shot glass around before signalling for another.

“Don’t drink too much, it’ll cause a lot of trouble.” Isagi stared at Rin’s hands, playing at the rim of the shot glass as he waited.

“Says the light-weight.” Rin quipped, blankly looking back at Isagi.

Isagi chuckled, shaking his head. "Hey, I'll have you know I can handle my alcohol just fine."

Rin pursed his lips, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Sure, sure. I'll believe it when I see it."

Isagi grinned mischievously. "Challenge accepted, then. Let's see who's standing last tonight." Isagi then heard Rin asking for a round of shots, Isagi had no idea what he was getting into. As the shots arrived, Isagi eyed them warily, knowing that keeping up with Rin wouldn't be easy. But he wasn't about to back down now.

“I hope you don’t crumble like you usually do.” Rin took a glass, downing one instantaneously.

“Oh shut up!” Isagi grinned, grabbing a glass wearily before shoving the liquor down anyways. He hated the taste; as he expected. Isagi winced at the burn of the alcohol, but he refused to show any weakness in front of Rin. With a determined look in his eyes, he matched Rin shot for shot, trying to keep up with his pace.

“How many?” Isagi asked, staring at the next (daunting) shot.

“How many, what..?” Rin asked, confused by Isagi.

Isagi blinked, momentarily confused by Rin's response. Then, he realised Rin didn't understand what he meant. "How many more shots are we doing?" Isagi clarified, trying to keep his words steady despite the alcohol beginning to take its toll.

Just as he reached for the next shot, the wave of spinning hit; he still managed to grab the glass easily; it just felt weird as it had no taste. Well, little to no taste as he downed another shot.

Rin chuckled, noticing Isagi's struggle to maintain composure. "Take it easy there, Isagi. We don't want you passing out on us."

Isagi stared at Rin, he looked a bit funky right now. Not in the way he was blurry; more like… he couldn’t really zone in on one of his features like he usually does.

It allowed Isagi to just look at his attractiveness; Isagi’s surprised by how little he thinks about that. Rin's sharp jawline, his piercing eyes, the way his lips curled into a smirk as he watched Isagi's struggle – it all seemed to come into sharper focus, as if the alcohol had somehow heightened his senses rather than dulled them.

Isagi blinked, feeling a strange fluttering in his chest.

He’s not really new to that feeling though. He had always known that Rin was good-looking, of course, but now it seemed like he was seeing him in a whole new light.

But before Isagi could dwell on his newfound appreciation for Rin's looks any further, he was brought back to reality by the sound of Rin's voice.

"Hey, you alright there, Isagi?" Rin asked, his tone laced with concern. His once hyper-focus was broken; he now felt the crushing weight of dizziness.

Isagi blinked again, shaking his head slightly to clear away the fog that had settled over his mind. "Yeah, yeah, I'm fine. Just... zoning out for a moment there."

Rin hummed in response, downing another shot before looking back at Isagi. “Aren’t you gonna drink more?”

“Uhm.. right.” Isagi snapped out of it, reaching for the cup; his head felt oddly heavy as he downed another shot. Like, he just realised how heavy his head truly is. Wait.

“Holy shit.. You can laugh?” Isagi only just realised, causing Rin to stare at him as though he grew 3 heads (it kinda felt like he did..).

"Yeah, Isagi, I can laugh. Did you forget that?" Rin deadpanned; a bit of flush on him from the alcohol, and yet he seemed to be not drunk at all. Lucky bitch.

Isagi blinked, a wave of fatigue hitting him at once. “Yeah… uhm. It just isn’t normal from; y’know.. You.”

“I don’t laugh often, do I?” Rin stated, there was one symptom though; he was docile.

Isagi shook his head slowly, feeling the weight of exhaustion settling in his bones. "No, you don't. It's... nice, though. Seeing you laugh, I mean." Rin's expression softened at Isagi's words, a hint of warmth spreading across his features.

“Whatever.” Rin snapped to the side, putting down his glass. Rin quickly snapped his head back, staring at the empty glass in Isagi’s hands. “You should stop. You’re out of it.”

Isagi blinked, feeling a bit taken aback by Rin's sudden change in demeanour. He glanced down at the empty glass in his hand, realising with a jolt that he had lost track of how much he had been drinking. The room seemed to spin around him, and he struggled to focus on Rin's face.

"Yeah... I think you're right," Isagi mumbled, his voice slurring slightly as he placed the glass back on the table. The weight of exhaustion seemed to press down on him even more heavily now.

“The fuck are you idiots doing.” Isagi heard a voice right behind him, he was too lazy to turn to his head; he just assumed it was Sae.

“They’re obviously having a drinking contest, honeyyyyy.” Isagi instantly knew that was Shidou, cemented by the familiar hand grabbing Isagi’s drink and downing the leftover ones. “Rinny won, disappointing.”

“Shut up, antenna freak.” Rin snapped, Isagi looked up to see his eyes furrowed. How the fuck was he not gone?

“Enough.” Sae responded, Isagi merely stared at Rin’s reaction. “I assume you’re going to take care of your boyfriend, right Rin?”

Isagi's head shot up at Sae's words, his mind struggling to process the implications. Boyfriend? Rin and him? The alcohol-induced haze made it difficult for Isagi to grasp the situation fully, but he couldn't deny the warmth that spread through him at the thought.

Rin's expression hardened at Sae's words, but he nodded curtly. "Of course, Sae. I'll make sure Isagi gets home safely."

Oh right; they were fake dating. Isagi remembered, putting his head back onto the table. Isagi felt a rush of gratitude towards Rin, despite the confusing circumstances. "Thanks, Rin," he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper.

“Carry him to the car.” Sae (Isagi assumed, he was tired as shit so it might’ve been Shidou) responded. “You’re lucky I’m driving. You’d all be fucked.”

“Awww, Sae-baby is so cute!” Shidou giggled, Isagi then heard him being shoved.

“No PDA, horny demon.” Sae spoke, blankly like usual. Rin gently lifts Isagi from his slumped position, making him wrap Isagi wrap his arms around his neck, putting both hands under his thighs for a koala-like carry.

Isagi's head lolled against Rin's shoulder as he was lifted, feeling a strange mixture of embarrassment and comfort in being carried like this.

As they made their way out of the bar and towards the car, Isagi could hear the faint sounds of Sae and Shidou bickering behind them, but he was too tired to pay much attention. Instead, he focused on the steady rhythm of Rin's footsteps and the warmth of his body pressed against his own.

Once they reached the car, Rin carefully settled Isagi into the backseat. “You are conscious enough to do the rest, right?” Isagi nodded, opening his eyes slightly to lightly grasp at the seatbelt and bring it over.

Isagi seemed satisfied when Isagi managed to buckle himself in, albeit with some effort. "Good," Rin murmured, a touch of relief in his voice. “You’re really annoying when you’re drunk.”

Isagi hummed, moving slightly to lean onto the door as soon as Rin shut it; he then heard the other sit next to him.

Isagi felt a wave of exhaustion wash over him as he settled into the backseat, his body feeling heavy and sluggish. He closed his eyes, letting the darkness behind his eyelids soothe his tired mind.

He then heard something, seemingly directed to Rin. “Aren’t you going to..” Isagi didn’t register the other words, still slightly in a daze as he shifted to look to Rin; who was now red.

“Shut up.” Rin spoke before unbuckling his seatbelt and sitting next to Isagi.

Isagi's gaze shifted to Rin, his mind still fuzzy from the alcohol but slowly starting to piece things together. The word "boyfriend" echoed in his thoughts, and he couldn't shake the warmth that spread through him at the idea.

Without thinking, Isagi reached out and gently took Rin's hand in his own, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "Thanks for taking care of me, Rin," he said softly, his voice barely above a whisper.

Rin froze, staring at Isagi wide-eyed; he seemed like he was about to rip hand away but he stopped himself. It was probably due to Shidou’s scrutinising stare at the both of them. Rin looked to the window opposing them, humming slightly. “Whatever..”

Isagi slightly shifted, looking at Shidou who turned his head back around. He kept talking as Isagi started to register words slightly; only slightly. “Damn, not even letting him lean on you to…” Isagi tuned out slightly, he presumed it was to do with Rin’s slight distance to his touch.

Isagi then heard Sae’s voice before Rin sighed out, looking at Isagi for a moment. “This might be weird.” Isagi then felt a hand to the back of his head, moving to lean on Rin’s shoulder. “Never drink that much again. It’s jarring.” Isagi saw a blush on his cheek nonetheless.

With a contented sigh, Isagi allowed himself to lean into Rin's shoulder, feeling the tension in his muscles gradually melt away. He closed his eyes, focusing on the steady rhythm of Rin's slight movement.

“You don’t hate me.. Do you?” Isagi whispered, fiddling with their intertwined fingers with his other hand. Rin turned his gaze to Isagi, studying the soft features of his face illuminated by the dim light of the car.

"No, Isagi, I don't hate you," Rin replied softly, his voice barely above a whisper. He squeezed Isagi's hand gently, a flicker of warmth in his eyes. “I… how drunk are you? Will you remember anything tomorrow?”

Isagi let out a soft chuckle, the sound muffled by Rin's shoulder. “Dunno…” Isagi admitted, his words slurring slightly. He frowned, trying to push through the haze to grasp onto Rin's question. "I mean... I think I'll remember some things. Maybe not everything, though."

Rin nodded slowly, a hint of concern flickering in his eyes. He reached up to gently brush a strand of hair away from Isagi's face, his touch light and tender. That was odd. Isagi noted, closing his eyes finally.

“It’s the opposite.” Rin spoke as though it was a confession; Isagi had no idea what he was talking about. Isagi's brow furrowed slightly in confusion as he tried to make sense of Rin's words.

"What do you mean, Rin?" Isagi asked, his voice barely audible above the hum of the car's engine. He cracked open one eye, peering up at Rin with a mixture of curiosity and befuddlement.

“I meant… I’m happy you wont remember this.” Rin stared down at Isagi, completely relaxed. “I love you.”

Isagi's eyes widened in surprise at Rin's confession, his mind struggling to process the weight of those words amidst the haze of alcohol-induced confusion. "You... you love me?" Isagi repeated, his voice barely above a whisper, as if afraid that speaking any louder would shatter the fragile bubble of intimacy that had enveloped them in the darkness of the car.

"Yeah," Rin replied softly, his voice tinged with vulnerability. "I love you, Isagi."

Isagi's heart fluttered in his chest at Rin's words, a rush of warmth spreading through him despite the fog that clouded his thoughts. "I... I love you too, Rin," Isagi murmured, his voice thick with emotion. “I think…”

Rin hummed, putting his hand over Isagi’s eyes; causing him to sputter. “Sleep. Your hangover will be worse if you don’t.”

Isagi hummed, smiling like a maniac. “When… I wake up tomorrow. I’ll remember. I know it.” Rin huffed, as though not believing his words.

Yet, despite Isagis words; Rin’s silence was proven right.
