Work Text:
Between deep green pines, wooden stalls and wistful snow covering the entire scenery like a blanket hugging it's bed, the unlikely family walked their way into the christmas fair.
"We're there. As I said before, these Christmas markets are usually held in the season of Advent. They typically sell various goods like carved wooden figures, or articles of clothing. But most commonly, customers come here to purchase warm food and drinks, and indulge in the warm and familiar atmosphere of these places."
Her new father always had a habit of overexplaining and being overly cautious to her. It's sweet in some way, but Trucy wanted to finally get the full experience of German christmas markets, since aunt Franzi described them to her.
And now that she and her daddy were visting Miles over the Holidays to spend christmas together while he was working back where he grew up, she wanted to use as much time as possible ebefore it's too late again.
"Uh- okay!", the young teenager was already puling at his sleeves, her patience wearing thin.
"Can we go then, papa?"
But before she could get her way, she felt two stern hands on her shoulders.
"--Wait, little madam! We're CLOSING our jackets in cold weather, remember?"
Phoenix gave her his usual annoyed dad look, and turned her around to close her jacket himself.
"Just cause Miles is spoiling you doesn't mean we're just throwing rules out of the window. Okay?"
"O-kayyyyy.", Trucy sighed in typical teenage-annoyance. But like usually, it was only one second, and in the next she was rushing with Phoenix to the food stalls. Like father like daughter.
Miles couldn't help but chuckle at the lightness of the scene in front of him. All of the stress of recent cases were melting away, just seeing his favorite people interact with each other.
He never imagined having a family when he was young. Like his heart was too cold and guilty to even hold one person in it. But Phoenix proved him otherwhise years ago. Now it feels like his most vulnerable heart is reserved just for the warmth of these two.
"Now wait up, the food won't run away.", he spoke with so much tenderness even he himself wouldn't recognize himself.
Although he's not ready to admit it yet, each day these two were back in the US- away from him- felt like a waiting day, until he could escort them back to his apartment from the airport.
He slowly caught up to them as they scanned the food choices- one more confused than the other because the signs were in German.
A rare smile that suddenly came so easily was on Miles' face.

One of the stalls sold crepes, but Trucy quickly gave up trying to understand everything written around the word 'Crepes' with her limited German.
"Papa, what does that mean?"
She pointed at the sign.
"That's a Crepe filled with nougat creme, strawberry jam or topped with sugar. Would you like one, Trucy dear?""
Miles already brought out his wallet before receiving an answer, if he knew one thing about Trucy it was her sweet tooth. And as expected-
"With strawberry jam, please!"
"You'll never grow out of sweets, will you? We just ate lunch at home but here we are.", Phoenix commented, his eyes glistening in amusement of how childlike she remained sometimes even though he raised her for over 7 years at this point. But he liked sweets at least as much as her.
"--DAD!"
"Haha, in any case. Would you like one too, Phoenix?"
Miles waited for the nod of approval from his husband before ordering for them. He approached the seller after reveiving the signal.
"Hallo, guten Nachmittag. Zwei Crepes mit Marmelade bitte, danke."
"Hallo, das macht 10Euro."
"Hier." "Danke."
Trucy watched the exchange with the same amazement at how easily her papa could switch languages. She's been learning German since Phoenix introduced her to his boyfriend years ago, but she still wasn't where she wanted to be yet.
But her thoughts were interrupted by seeing the delicious goods in Miles' hands. She took one of them and thanked him happily.
They strolled around the market, with the Wrights eating their crepes and chatting about what they've seen of München this past week already.
Miles was walking behind them, just happy he got them here with him for now. When Trucy switched topics as she rememberd somethind.
"Dads, aunt Franziska told me that they sell Glühwein here! I have to try that!"
She had asked her what you do in Germany during christmas time, and they eventually ended up with a list of what she needed to do to get the full christmas experience on her winter break. And drinking Glühwein was on it.
"Glühwein-? WHINE-? Trucy, you're a minor!'", the defense attorney quickly countered startled. He wanted to get the idea out of her head asap. They were lawyers and certainly wouldn't break drinking laws. No. Especially not with their own daughter.
Oh. Wait.
They were in Germany.
"Hngh, I suppose Franziska informed you that you are old enough to consume whine in Germany on paper. But- I still can't bring myself to allow it.", Miles sighs knowing that his sister will talk him an ear off once Trucy will tell her he didn't allow her to get one. He really didn't feel like listening to all that. How harmful could just one be?
"Just one."
"NOT one!"
Phoenix immediately objected.
"Uh uh- Objection! Papa is the local here sooo his opinion counts."
She giggles to herself, imitating Phoenix's iconic objection pose.
The two attorneys can't help but laugh at the pose and Miles feels a sense of pride at the girl standing up to her father.
He hoped they'd spent next christmas at his place too.
