"Arthur has asked me to marry him”
“Poor Arthur. But I suppose he’ll recover. Do you want me to go and try to raise his spirits?” I teased.
“My answer was yes” Said Gwen
“No” No.
“I wasn’t really asking,” she said as she held up her hand. An intricately carved diamond ring sparkled against her warm skin.
“Nor was I” I said, only lightly enough it could have been said in jest.
“Morgana this is not a matter upon which you can simply command your will. For heaven’s sakes you have not truly ordered me to do anything since we were children. Are you honestly going to start now?” Gwen asked with a smile. She believed my words were only in jest.
I forced a laugh. “It’s a beautiful ring” It was not the amethyst ring she had dreamed of for years. It was not the ring I had dreamed of giving her for just as many. But it was a beautiful ring.
“Isn’t it? Arthur asked me to go for a ride with him this morning. I nearly refused because I wanted to get an early start with your breakfast. I know I can just get it from the royal kitchens but they never make eggs quite how you like them… Anyways, he was really insistent about it, so I went. It didn’t seem to be really out of the ordinary. Merlin rode behind us with a picnic basket though and he kept sneaking glances at me. When I tried to get a moment alone to ask him what was so funny, he just smiled at me and wouldn’t say anything! But then when we got down to the waterfall (Merlin showed us all a few years ago) he told me how much he cared about me and… and he asked me to marry him!” She exclaimed.
I was happy for her. I was.
